This Giant Hog Weed is really not Dwarf in any way shape or from.. It is a bush.. I have been pinching and snapping all week long.. May try growing this outside just to see how tall it really gets.. I was told it could grow to 5' and should not have put it in the tent after I realized how little room 3x3x6 actually is. So I truly had not looked up what makes a Dwarf tomato. This guy meets all the below criteria .. pruning part may be due to excessive nitrogen.. So my statement of it not being Dwarf is not correct. Sorry Ellie, and thanks for correcting me via mail. Dwarf Tomato plants are defined as: Height of 2 to 4 ½ feet A sturdy framework to support the fruits Tomatoes in all sizes, shapes and colors Flavors ranging from sweet to tart Minimal pruning requirements Capacity to grow in a limited size garden Mature plants that could be grown in 5-gallon containers or straw bales   |

My fault really, did not understand what bush growth behavior was this.. I just thought it was like an early girl bush that grew to about 24". A tumbleweed growth behavior when grown hydroponically is a more accurate description  Of course Ellie has never grown this hydroponically and does say it can get 5ft tall so there is really just me to blame for planting a semi determinant bush in a 3x3 tent with 2 other plants..  |

Do you have any tomatoes yet? Do you know what they're supposed to taste like? You must be another Charlotte MacLeod cozy mystery fan. The Curse of the Giant Hogweed is a classic! |

Sorry I missed this.. this guy was not sold as Dwarf it was determinant. There are green fruits but nothing ripe. Supposed to be strong tomato flavor (I read that as more acid then sweet which is our goal) This plant is surely getting too much nitrogen but at this point I am just running with it. Looks like the 2 dwarf plants will be done after all the fruit ripens and is harvest. If they are still going in Late May I will take them outside for how ever long they will continue and move this guy to center stage and see what comes of it .. This week I unzipped the tent and installed some fencing to contain it.. Not sure that is the best as it is really tight and no air flow but wanted to give the others some light..  |

It is totally out of control, but just going to let it go. I do no think the others will continue to produce after everything ripen so will eventually give this guy the whole tent.
Under all that are a lot of dead and dying leaves and branches as you can imagine. I just don't know how to deal with it, and keep it contained so I am just going to let nature deal with it.. for now.. Still noting red on this guy, too busy making leaves I guess.. but there are lots of flowers under the green so time will tell!

This guy was just too big and bushy for the tent and the bucket was over flowing due to too many roots.. The water in the containment bin was starting to stink and we were a long way off from much of the fruit ripening. The other 2 small plants were just about done and havested.    |

Aww, that's too bad. All that work, and no tomatoes. It was an interesting project to watch, so at least you can chalk it up to experience!  |

Too bad you couldn't harvest and eat all the roots it produced, airscapes. I'm sorry you lost the plants. |

Was kind of tired or it.. wanted my basement back  Right now I have all the potted tomatoes, 4 peeper and one eggplant in the tent. Just mixed in some sulfur and UREA in the the tomato bed as per soil test and want a good heavy rain which still has not happened.. Think I am supposed to wait 2 weeks before planting after the Sulfur but will probably not as it is late already.. |
