I've recently used an AG Seed Starter for the first time and I was very impressed. Out of 23 pods planted, only 1 did not germinate! And, most of the seeds had very quick action. See Thread Here for details.
A friend of mine likes to start Pepper seeds in a food dehydrator, for quicker germination. She lives in the Mid-West, so starting things inside can help with their shorter growing season. She puts the seeds on a wet paper towel, then into a plastic zip-lock bag. She puts the bags into her food dehydrator set to 95 degrees.
I've heard that some folks use a Instant Pot set to the yoghurt setting, with a similar process as above.
Coincidentally, my morning email brought a note from AG that Seed Starters are part of Today's Deals & Special Offers. There are a number of seed starters available and I now have 3 of them! Here's a run down:
Sprout has space for 15 sponges
Harvest (several models available) has space for 23 sponges
Classic 6 has space for 30 sponges
Bounty has space for 50 sponges
Farm has space for a whopping 85 sponges!
So, there are a number of options. I have the Sprout tray (came with my AG Sprout machine on a special offer), the Harvest tray (recently used in the GAL link shown above) and the Bounty tray too. What I really LOVE about the Sprout and Harvest tray and they are super easy to trade out. Just swap out the deck for the tray. The Bounty is a tad more complicated as the pump system is attached to the deck, so you have to pry that off and attach it to the Seed Starter. Not a huge deal, unless you have issues with your hands, like me.
All that said, I'm sure there are other ways or tweaks to seed starting methods. And, of course, one can just pop them into our AG machine to start them too! No right or wrong way. How do you start your seeds? I'm betting I'm not the only one curious!
