scarfguy, both vines look great, but the leaves on the iznik are something else! Love the photo.

Lynnee, the big leaves are about twice the size of my hand. It's amazing. Of all of the crops I've tried, I find the cucumber is the most fascinating. You can actually watch the suckers reach out and grab something over a period of a few minutes.

OK, here is a problem. They are producing almost all female flowers. What the devil?

They are not parthenocarpic?
You are going to have to pollinate. I would think you would want a lot of female flowers cause that is where your cukes will grow. As long as you have some male flowers you should be ok.

mike , this comment was posted on the Park Seed page for the Baby Hybrid cuke: I didn't know what gynoecious meant, so found this instructive cucumber terminology page at Johnny's seeds.I guess that we may need to plant a cuke that produces male flowers alongside our Baby Hybrids to make them produce cukes. I have three of these at seedling stage in a seed starter. What a bummer if these are actually gynoecious.

Hmmm... it says you need to plant a "pollinizer" nearby that is primarily male flowers. So, finding a variety that is predominately male flowers is going to be hard to find I would imagine.

My primary concern would be finding space for two cukes in an AG garden. I was planning to transplant my Baby seedlings outdoors into an Earth Box, but it will take a month or so to get a male-flower cuke ready to transplant. I will have to order seeds, for starters. I'm willing to do the pollinating for a cuke with both male and female flowers, but a cuke that needs a male-flower cuke is basically unsuitable for an AG. I guess that I'll toss the seedlings, if the plant is in fact gynoecious.

Here's another "cuke quirk" you folks may find interesting...
So I posted a pic of my iznik and little leaf parthenocarpic cukes. The iznik is prolific and has been since the first flower. BUT the little leaf has been producing a ton of flowers but no fruit. The flowers are beginning to fall off and there is no fruit? I found a discussion on another site that talks about that happening. They implied that the parthenocarpic nature of this plant doesn't seem to take effect until the plant reaches a level of maturity.... I'm waiting patiently...

Sorry mike... Try the h-19 little leaf hybrid. It's compact and manageable. I'm finding the iznik to be prolific but unweildy.

Hardly unexpected, mike . But at least you found out early, and got some practice in for controlling vines. The Mini Munch from Territorial Seeds is another cuke that can be grown in a Bounty. Mine is producing harvestable cukes now, and it was started around the time of your Babies. I haven't decided whether to terminate my Babies or to transplant them outdoors to see what they do. I don't really have time for outdoor experiments, but I'm awfully curious.

Yes, well I ordered H-19 Little Leaf Organic Cucumber and Patio Baby Mini Eggplants from Johnny's Seeds. For those interested in cucumbers... This H-19 Little leaf is really bizarre in its behavior. At first, I thought they sent me the wrong seeds cause it had nothing but male flowers! As they grew towards the ends of the vines, it started to grow fruit from the ends of the vines working their way back to the main stalk. Very weird.

i just noticed your signature. it reminded me of my first husband. He fell off a telephone pole when he was a young man and was confined to bed for months.
To keep him occupied, his grandmother taught him to knit. That became his lifelong winter hobby, and his work was exquisite.
Now, back to the subject of cucumbers!
