Hi newbie here, and all my mini jalapenos have leaves that are browning like this and on closer inspection, look to be covered in little white...things? Anyone know what's going on here and how I can fix it? Thanks! Link to image - picture from a jalapeno plant.

Hi thirdoriginal, and welcome to the forum! My guess is that your mini jalapenos have edema, but I'll leave it to the pepper experts here to make a diagnosis and offer suggestions about dealing with the problem. If it is edema, then it's caused by a nutrient imbalance that you can correct fairly easily.

i don't have the answer, but I'll tag our pepper expert, mike. When he sees this, he can probably tell you exactly what is going on.

Hello and welcome!
It can be one of a few things ... but first a few questions....
1) What does the underleaf look like?
2) Do there appear to be any very small spiders or mites on any leaves or up the stalk?
3) What machine are you using?
4) How much nutes and how often do you give?
5) How close is the light to these leaves? Did they touch them at all?

This isn't edema. It looks like a plant that is underwatered, but in a hydroponic system? It doesn't look like pepper sunscald, or getting too close to the lights, the brown spots are typically larger. I also don't think it's bacterial leaf spot. Have you seen leaves turn yellow then brown? I don't this that to be the case. It comes from bad seeds. There isn't much you can do with that. It isn't Phytophthora Blight, that's more in soil. It's not Aphids or Mosaic Virus.
Like I said, it looks like underwatering. Post some more photos.

A little while ago, I noticed that my banana peppers were dropping leaves like crazy. Guess what! I left the pump unplugged after the last R&R. Again. thirdoriginal, is your pump working?

Thanks for the welcomes and questions!! Gallery link of new pictures1) Added a new gallery of pictures 2) I cannot see any small spiders or mites 3) Farm 12XL - in total I am (trying) to grow 2 mini jalapeno, 1 thai pepper, 1 purple super hot, 1 golden harvest cherry, 1 red heirloom cherry tomato. In retrospect, I think I definitely tried to plant too many things. I am only seeing this issue on the pepper plants. 4) 24ml ever 2 weeks: just going by the machines/bottles recommendations. Flushing water ever 2nd time I give nutes. 5) Between 4-6", the light has not touched any of these leaves: it is happening on leaves far below the light I haven't really seen the leaves turn yellow then brown. Thanks!

im with Shawn on this one, the small white stuff could be spider mites or PM (powdery mildew), if you have a jewelers loop that would be a quick way to see if it mites, though it kind of reminds me of Xanthomonas. those would be my first guesses.
is the browning starting on the older leaves (the bottom) and working its way up? sorry can't really tell on the photo's

sorry i should of been more exact on what i ment, the brown spots remind me of Xanthomonas (which is a bacterial infection).

If only affecting the older darker and/or larger leaves then I say just clip those off. I always take those off anyway. At first look from my phone the plants look good but I can not really tell until morning when I get in computer. Will look then.

thirdoriginal, it looks like there might be small bug eggs on some of the leaves.
Are you averse to using Sevin on them?
i have had bugs on my pepper plants before and spraying them with Sevin was the only thing that worked. I tried lots of need oil and other more environmentally friendly remedies, but none of them were very effective..
I would definitely remove all the browned leaves.

Yes. Diatomaceous earth can help prevent an infestation, but once I had a major problem, I just wanted to kill the little monsters NOW!

Yes. Diatomaceous earth can help prevent an infestation, but once I had a major problem, I just wanted to kill the little monsters NOW! next step would be to take it outside and hose it down, i try my absolute best not to use anything like that when it comes to food you never know if its going to get inside the plant or if residues will build up (but thats my personal preference). Remember patience is a virtue when it comes to growing, immediate results aren't always whats best for you or the plant!

I lost every plant in all my Aerogardens to aphids once. Had to toss everything out and take a break from growing until I was sure they were gone.
That's why I don't hose them off and hope I get them all anymore.
Patience with them? Pffffft!

thats part of IPM though, aphids and spider mites are 2 of the biggest infestations that affect most grows around here so i deal with those 2 constantly, i've found a weekly rotation of proper essential oil/neem oil sprays and keeping the environment correct and clean are the biggest things you can do to fight these kinds of things.
