Going from lettuce to kale in the Harvest models. Since I wanted 2 pods growing I planted 3 in each Harvest XL. All three are growing so I will be moving one pod from each Harvest XL to the Harvest. That will leave all six pods of kale growing. 3 Dwarf Blue Curled Scotch and 3 Improved Dwarf Siberian.

I cleaned up my Harvest and moved 1 each Scotch/Siberian kale plant to the Harvest. I had started 3 pods of each in the 2 Harvest XLs. So now there is 2 plants each in the 2 Harvest XLs and the Harvest.

The Siberian kale has larger leaves than the Scotch kale at this point. The transplants to the Harvest were not happy at first but seem to be recovering now. They are not doing as well as the plants left in the original spots of the Harvest XLs.

I have done a couple small harvests of the kale. The first one was 3 each of the largest leaves from the Scotch and Siberian kale. The one today was 7 leaves of the Siberian kale (these leaves have been much larger). The transplanted kale plants are doing fine now, growing straight instead of looking wilted.

Today I made kale chips with a half dozen of the Scotch kale leaves (baby kale size, I guess). Pretty tasty.

Well this is weird. I made some kale chips with the large Siberian kale leaves. Slight chop, tossed in olive oil with a little lemon juice, lightly salted.
They taste like popcorn.

I have pretty much settled in to making kale chips anytime there is enough larger leaves. Still think I am using more baby kale size leaves. One thing I notice between these two kale varieties is that while the Siberian kale has much larger leaves, the Scotch kale has much better continuing growth as I harvest a couple outer leaves.
