Day 2 of my first hydroponic garden (salad mix). The cats LOVE the domes. Had built a smaller fortress that morning--came home to scattered domes and two pods lying on the desk. So much for the those ads re: a garden that complements the decor!

Welcome Tammy! Nice guarding system LOL... I have heard cats love them. I have to find it but someone posted a way to keep cats out without taking up a lot of space. I will take a look later.

Wow! I've got 4 cats. None of them have never shown any interest in my aerogardens... even the one growing their catnip! They love the catnip but wait until I give it to them.

Thanks, Shawn ! I'd appreciate some ideas. Would like to be able to enjoy the garden without having to lock it away in a closet somewhere. Especially now that everything is sprouting!!! Adorable pup, BTW.

Fresh catnip smells completely different than dry. It has a more grassy aroma. My cats like the fresh much better than the dried. I have no idea why they don't attack the plant. My guess is that the smell is only there when you rub the leaves. They haven't figured out that if they slap at it, it will smell.

BTW, if its the humidity domes they like to play with, you can remove them fairly quickly. I take off the domes as soon as I see the seed has sprouted. I think they help germination but they also create a more humid environment that encourages mold and fungus growth.

That makes sense--every soil-based seed starter I've used says to take off the "dome" as soon as you see sprouts. I'll give it a try. Thanks!
