I still haven't gotten around to moving it, though I'm watering both morning and night >_<. Today is Day 42 and it turns out that there are 4 different flowers growing in this garden! The seeds I planted in the middle pod looked identical, but the plants themselves look more different each day: I'm even seeing buds on the big one now: Though the one in front is showing nothing but leaves:

The mystery is unfolding or should I say blooming.

Day 45. The first one is starting to bloom! Does anyone recognize the type of flower? I think I might have to wait until it fully blooms before I'll be able to find a match in Google's image search.

With Admin's permission I will share the link to a forum I find invaluable for identifying unfamiliar flowers. If you post a photo, someone will definitely, in time, identify it! I love that color! www.flowersforums.com/flowers-837/

Look who popped up overnight! It's Day 48 and the Mystery Monster Flower is blooming! It also looks like the 2 in the middle pod ARE the same kind of flower. The one in the back had stretched toward the light, narrowing the stem and leaves and lengthening the space between leaf nodes, so it looked very different until the one in front started to bloom this morning:

This is the strangest flower I've ever seen! It has a horn and a tail! I submitted a question to Outside Pride customer support through their website to ask which flowers are included in the mix, so I can Google them and try to determine which one this is, but I'm also going to post to the forum Corinne shared (thanks, Corinne!).

I sent a picture to my mom who posted it on another site and got a response. It's impatiens balsamina! Tons of blossoms are open now:

Here it is on Day 56 (yesterday or the day before): At this point, it's dropping petals and leaves and making a mess, so I'm thinking about abandoning this project after a few of the seed pods have matured. (I've been pollinating it.) While I wouldn't grow this again in an AG, I would definitely grow it in a front or backyard if I had one. I'm even considering doing another Mystery Wildflower project when this one's over - but choosing smaller seeds next time!

Really beautiful. And a fun surprise. But definitely big! I hope you can get it out of the deck ok. You might have to hack at it a bit and take it out in sections.

Very pretty! I could see them in a vase, but I guess it is too late with the petal drop. Most likely being a wild flower it will keep on blossoming, yet at the same time, outgrowing the hood. I'd stick it in a pot with some potting mix just 'to see what it'll do'.. A great project! One to grow again for the mystery!

I decided to end it today on Day 70 (10 weeks). I stuck 3 stalks in a glass of water to see if the seed pods will mature and tossed everything else. The roots were just ridiculous: I will be starting Mystery Wildflowers v2.0 tomorrow with smaller seeds. This project wasn't very exciting until the plants started to bloom, but in the end, only the biggest one survived. I hope all 3 will survive in Round 2.

That is a mound of roots. Good start to a mystery project. Looking forward to 2.0
