Your post made me look at these again! Are these the lowest prices to date? I am undecided if I want to plant my strawberries in one of these or try and make the multi tiered planter using milk crates like I saw on you tube. I also have grow bags that I was originally going to use. Decisions, decisions! What do you have in your cart? Maybe you will inspire me. My last strawberry planting was with the Mr Stackey planter which is similar to these. It seemed as though I could never get them watered thoroughly though.
I am so undecided about these. I was thinking of going with the 5-tier "original" unit, a rolling base, a trellis thing, and a cover. I want to be able to grow larger things, like indeterminate tomatoes, squash, etc. But then I wonder how they will really work in a somewhat crowded vertical space... will they shade each other out and end up a tangled mess?
I don't want to grow leafy stuff and herbs... I've got that covered with the Aerogardens. So now I'm thinking maybe I wouldn't be happy with the Greenstalk but I just can't decide. I'd probably be better off with a couple more Earth Boxes, haha. (Maybe they are having a Black Friday sale, too!)
I think they have these sales around major holidays like Mother's Day, etc. These sale prices seem to be about the same each time but I really don't keep up with it.

I thought the prices were about the same as the Labor Day sale too. I love my Earthboxes and have had great success with tomatoes and peppers in them. At least you can meet the tomatoes off the ground and somewhat neat with a Earthbox. They probably have a Black Friday sale going too. I was mainly looking for something for strawberries but after using the Mr Stackey for them I am not sure they wouldn’t have the same issues with watering. I felt like I was constantly trying to water each opening with a hose because the amount of water that tricked down wasn’t enough. I have strawberry plants someone gave me in water to root but now it’s time to do something with them as they are nicely rooted. I also considered using my Aerogarden strawberry insert for the berries. While I am deciding, they are sitting in their mason jars of water. I agree lettuce and herbs are easier in the Aerogarden and I like my lettuce grown inside where it doesn’t get dirt on it. |

Put a bunch of stuff in my cart since they seem to have some new things since I last bought from them. Then checked out their shipping! Yikes are they high. Could be the dealbreaker for me since I am a sucker for free shipping but had less than $100 in my cart and you need $150 for free shipping there. |

To me, slw and swimmom500, the GreenStalk looks like a tiered planter, intended for display rather than for farming. Unlike an Earthbox, which retains water until it's full to overflowing, the GreenStalk lacks a real reservoir. The GreenStalk video shows that water added at the top runs down through the central core, filling the intermediate watering discs, and then exiting the bottom. Either in the video or an accompanying comment, also says that you may have to keep refilling the top "reservoir" until all of the lower plants are irrigated. This seems like a setup that will keep flowering or decorative foliage plants happy, but that will require a lot of refilling for water-hungry plants like tomatoes. I had reasonable success growing indeterminate tomatoes in an Earthbox, but the box dried out very fast. Also, the Earthbox trellis tore under the weight of the tomatoes (not very many). What worked better for me was planting a single tomato in a pot on the ground and then putting a wire tomato cage around it. That way I could direct water to the plant roots in the pot, and use minimal water.  |

I'm just the opposite, lynnee. I've had excellent results using Earth Box or City Pickers boxes, but when I put tomatoes in pots they seem to dry out fast and not do well at all.
From what I have seen on Youtube and Reddit, a lot of people grow all kinds of stuff in the Greenstalks, but the more I consider it, the less interest I have in them. I think they're probably great for growing greens and herbs, but for the things I plan to grow... not so much.

I haven't had time to look at the website; too many "Thanksgiving prep" things going on!! Sounds like I need to put my feet up and do some shopping, though. I have a feeling it won't take long to get to the $150! I "need" free shipping, too. Many times Amazon has the same sales as the vendors so I'll keep an eye on them, too. |

Sounds like you're really digging into the options for your garden! Both the GreenStalk Vertical Garden and the DIY milk crate planter sound like great choices. If you're looking to grow larger plants like tomatoes and squash, the 5-tier original unit with a rolling base, trellis, and cover could be a good fit.
I found some inspiration for my garden by browsing through garden portfolios online.
As for sales, they often happen around major holidays like Mother's Day, so you might be able to snag a deal then

there is a guy on youtube that made something similar with Dollar Tree Stackable Planters. his name is Troy Time.
