I have been making plans for the GreenStalk garden tiers I have. 6 planting pockets on each tier. I'll have 3 original and 3 leaf tiers.
I'll be starting the plants in March.
3 original tiers: 3 sisters (corn, beans, squash) and a couple sunflowers.
3 leaf tiers (a bit smaller volume): Lower tier - tomato/pepper
middle tier - kale, chard, Brussels sprouts upper tier - herbs

tompepper7--how do you like the GreenStalk? I just ordered a 5-tier model, the spinner with wheels platform, and the lid for the water bowl. Now I'm wondering if I should have purchased the plant supports for tomatoes and vines. Do you have the supports for yours?

I looked at this on Amazon after seeing your post. Looks very similar to my Mr Stacky that I haven’t used in years. I am curious about how the water is delivered to the lower tiers. I found Mr Stacky to be lacking in water delivery and ended up just watering with a hose. That got way too time consuming so I quit using it. I can’t imagine growing tomatoes or peppers in something like that, so I am curious as to how this works and if you like it. |

That said, I have requested to cancel my order because I ordered the wrong thing and don't want to make an expensive mistake.  I didn't realize there are two sizes of grow containers, the regular size (10") and the new "leaf" size (7"). Naturally the leaf size is for "leafy" vegetables with smaller root systems and that is not what I wanted. I prefer the option of being able to grow tomatoes and peppers, too.
Of course I placed the order on a Friday night and there's no way to contact them until Monday so we'll see how this plays out. If I ever get the system and use it I will certainly post my review. In the meantime, maybe tompepper7 can tell us how his is doing. |

Just thought I'd add this to the thread; I am impressed with GreenStalk customer service. I got a very nice response to my order cancellation request from "Charli", who not only canceled my order and refunded immediately, but sent links to information about GreenStalk products. She also told me to wait to order because they are having a sale at the end of this month! I'm impressed that she responded outside of "normal business hours" to help me, and I will study up on the product line while I wait for the sale.

On mine you were supposed to water the top tier and the water would drip down. But like the article said, the top tier would be waterlogged and the lower tiers still dry. That’s why I gave up on it and put it up. I still have it and may give it another try. If nothing else I can separate the layers and use it for flowers if I put the layers in a bed and mulch around them. But I hear the word “sale” from you and perked right up. Lol! Can you post when the sale is live? |

I ordered one of the original complete sets (the size with the bigger pockets) a few weeks ago when they were clearing out the terra cotta color (which matches my Earthboxes). I was so impressed when it arrived I immediately went to order another only to see that they had sold out so I'm glad to hear about the sale, even if it will be a different color. They even included several Botanical Interests seed packets with it that are brand new stock (unlike the ones that I just picked up at a local nursery).
I started planting it today and it's very well made. I should have it fully planted tomorrow (I'm moving strawberries from a raised bed to it and sticking some cool weather greens seeds on either side of the strawberry plant) and will be interested to see how well the watering system really works.

I wanted the terracotta color, too!! In my haste to buy them I didn't notice the set I chose were the "leaf" size and like you said the larger ones are sold out, so I missed that deal. I actually like the terracotta color best.
Speaking of strawberries... I saw a hint on their Facebook page to leave an empty planter in between strawberry plants. Then when they get runners you can easily pin the runner into the empty spot for a free plant. Just a thought!!
I will be interested to hear what you think of the setup.

I thought I would get used to how the watering works and rotating the garden for sun on all sides.
I had mold or fungus in a couple of pockets. I had used Fox Farm Happy Frog potting soil and later read that happens sometimes with that soil. For watering I read somewhere that doing three cycles of filling the water and letting it drain was best so that is what I did. One type of garlic did good and the other didn't really do much at all. The carrots did well.
I missed out on spring planting because I never made a run to get the multiple bags of potting soil I would need.
The GreenStalk system seems really nice. Good luck with yours.

Thanks for the update tompepper7. I had read that the Fox Farm Happy Frog potting soil is recommended so I wonder what happened with that.
I'm having second thoughts about the GreenStalk right now. I realized that I have 3 or 4 Earth Boxes and City Pickers boxes that I haven't used so maybe I should start with those before "branching out." (A little plant humor on a Sunday.) I'm sure I'll probably cave when their sale starts, though. |

I have all my strawberries planted. I didn't leave an empty tier. I still have strawberries in other locations so not sure if I'll just pluck off the runners from the Greenstalk or do what others did and binder clip a cup with potting soil to catch the runner and then plant it.
I'm very happy with the quality of the product and the watering system seems to work great. I'll have a better review on it in a few days when I'm not misting the plants to try to get them to survive the transfer in this heat.

I had never heard of this system before and it sounds VERY interesting, given that I have limited space, and somewhat limited mobility with my spine issues, so a vertical planter might be just the ticket. I would be highly tempted to get more than one, and have one all in strawberries!
I particularly like that they have insect and frost covers for it!
I see the sale, but it's a long time until planting outdoors again, so I think I'll hope for other sales in the future. I have for sure bookmarked the site though!

Your post made me look at these again! Are these the lowest prices to date? I am undecided if I want to plant my strawberries in one of these or try and make the multi tiered planter using milk crates like I saw on you tube. I also have grow bags that I was originally going to use. Decisions, decisions! What do you have in your cart? Maybe you will inspire me. My last strawberry planting was with the Mr Stackey planter which is similar to these. It seemed as though I could never get them watered thoroughly though. |
