Happy Spring!
Has anyone tried forcing tulips or hyacinths in the AeroGarden? I’m curious because there are many water vase forced bulbs sold at stores. I’m happy to hear your suggestions or brainstorms.
Thanks

An interesting question, birdsatflight! I don't know the answer, but hopefully someone here will!

I've thought about this from time to time. It seems to me that bulbs (tulips, hyacinth, garlic, onions) could be grown in an aerogarden if you could secure the bulb to the top of the deck. That is, don't use the basket or the sponge. Just put the bulb on top of the deck hole with the roots hanging down into the water.
I've just never figured out a way to secure the bulb. It would need to be stable as the plant grows...
Maybe something like chicken wire over top of the bulb might work???

I can visualize what you’re saying. I wonder how well the roots will reach the water considering there is about a one inch gap between the deck and the water line. I was thinking maybe not using the deck and have a gravel bed. But the worry is algae growth. Perhaps I’ll try making a 3D designed basket that can hold the bulb and sit in the hole. There could be a way for the water to pour over the bottom of the bulb. A summer design challenge!

I'd love to see a photo of your "bulb basket", if you decide to go ahead with it, birdsatflight!

That should work fine. Can't wait to see your tulips in full bloom!

Would it be possible to use toothpicks to stabilize the tulip bulbs? I sort of remember using toothpicks when growing an avocado plant from seed. Would puncturing a bulb kill it?
