I imagine some of you saw the Aerogarden Experiments guy testing a garden that has a transparent water tank called "Ahopegarden." There have been a few other Ahopegarden systems so they have been around for a while.
I like the water bowl/ tank on the setup; it is an oval shape and all rounded with no corners...very clean looking inside. I have found conflicting information on the wattage of the light, so I'm curious about that.
During the Amazon sales I noticed a good price on the system; it is regularly $99 and I paid $59, plus I had some "Amazon Rewards $$" to waste. So I will be able to check it out for myself tomorrow.
Here's the Aerogarden Experiments video. I am happy to report that the "bowtie" has been removed from the new model.
There is a followup video where he reports that there was NO algae problem with the transparent bowl.

I finally got around to setting up the Ahopegarden. The tank is actually a smoky tint and not clear. You can see into the tank but it's not like an aquarium or anything!! I'm not wild about the pump setup; it directs the water to one side so there's not much water action in the opposite side of the tank. Also, no water delivery to each pod so it will be important to keep the water level stable. The light seems sufficiently bright and has the typical "veg" or "flowers and fruit" modes.
I'm starting with some cilantro and parsley. We'll see how this goes.

Here's my Ahopegarden with a bell pepper plant after about 6 weeks. I have not had any algae problem at all.
I like the garden except the water fill opening is small, so I usually fill through a pod hole.

slw , It IS nice to be able to see the roots growing! I agree; it's a pretty garden. But like scarfguy said, a goldfish would be so cool in there!!

Hopefully no one will try a goldfish, because the water would probably get too warm!

Hopefully no one will try a goldfish, because the water would probably get too warm! Well, it would be one way to fertilize ... but probably not anyone's preferred way!

Hopefully no one will try a goldfish, because the water would probably get too warm! I don't know anything about goldfish, but the ones I had as a kid were just in one of those sad glass bowls with marbles in the bottom. I checked the water temp in the Ahopegarden and it was 3 degrees cooler than the 74 degree room air.
Anyway, I have no intention of putting a fish in there because I don't know if the plant nutes would harm him.

Glad to hear that you aren't going to try a goldfish, slw! I was worried because the water temp in my AGs can go over 80 degrees in the summertime! 🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠
