I love lettuce, I love growing it, and I particularly love eating it. My goal from the start with Aerogarden was to set up enough AGs to keep a constant supply of lettuce on my plate. Whether it's tossed salad and scrambled eggs for breakfast, or a nice salad on a ploughman's lunch, or a Shrimp Louie for dinner, I want to harvest some lettuce and go straight to plate with it. It will keep me away from McDonald's, I am sure. To that end, I have three Harvest Slims lined up for lettuce production. One has AG Parris Island Cos, which is a bit over a month old, maybe a bit longer. And the other two were just planted yesterday with Merlot leaf lettuce and AG Mystery Greens Here's the Parris Island -- (Note the addition of the blue cafeteria tray, which coordinates nicely with the painter's tape on the front.) Stayed tuned for more.

I'm also a compulsive seed buyer (who me?) - my current count of different lettuce varieties / seed packs is 52.

Thanks.
I am trying very hard to not buy seeds that I am not going to immediately be able to plant, because when one has a seed without an available garden, one becomes tempted to correct that situation by the acquisition of another garden. So I am hoping to maintain an equilibrium.
Plans here at Chez Clovis call for lettuce (lactuca sativa variations) gardens and gardens with non-lettuce greens. To that end, I have some New Zealand spinach just planted in a Harvest, and as soon as I rearrange the counter and get this new Harvest out of the box, some tatsoi. (See what I mean about having to limit my seeds to what garden space I have.)
So check back soon for updates on the spinach/tatsoi project.
In other news, I have a couple of tiny little sprouts in the AG Mystery Greens and one in the merlot.
Not even big enough to photograph, but still exciting because I only planted the merlot 2 days ago and the Mystery Greens 3 days ago.

I'm so glad you decided to try the Merlot, Clovis Sangrail! I just harvested another giant head of it. It grows fast, is fine with "cut and come again" harvesting, is very slow to bolt, and tastes good.

It just took me this long to clear a spot.

Four days on, and the AG Mystery Greens are 6 for 6 for sprouts, and the Merlot is 5 for 6.
I will drop a few more seeds in the one unsprouted pod tomorrow if no sprouts appear.
I would take pictures, but they are not even poking their heads over the label yet.

It has been one week since I started some AG Mystery Greens and some Merlot leaf lettuce, and I am happy to say both are 6 for 6 for germination. And they are starting to poke their way out of the top of the seed pods. AG Mystery Greens -- Merlot -- And the Parris Island is still producing. I harvested a gallon ziploc bag yesterday.

Lettuce update from River City -- The Merlot leaf and AG Mystery Greens, planted January 29, are coming along nicely. Merlot -- AG Mystery Greens -- And I have harvested multiple times from the Parris Island and Friends -- I have another Harvest Elite Slim coming this week, and plan is to do a final harvest of this one and then start two new lettuce gardens. Still not sure what to grow. I have seeds for red romaine, Parris Island, buttercrunch, Merlot, and rouge d'hiver, plus a collection of AG pods.

Lettuce update from Chez Clovis -- I harvested Parris Island and Friends. It turns out there was some Deer Tongue in there, too. I got three bags of lettuce. Before -- After -- Then, today, 2/24/24, I started 2 Harvest Elite Slims with AG Parris Island and AG Heirloom Salad Greens. I decided to go the easy route today and use up the pre-planted pods. Meanwhile, the Merlot and AG Mystery Greens that were planted not quite a month ago on 1/29/24 should be ready for some harvesting once I get those three bags of lettuce eaten. And that's the lettuce news from Chez Clovis.

Clovis Sangrail, the AG Mystery Greens look like the basic "salad greens", probably a romaine mixed with red leaf lettuce. The AG generic salad greens mix has always been my favorite of the AG lettuces. AG Romaine always performed well for me, too. The other lettuces (Deer Tongue, Black Seeded Simpson, Parris Island, Red Sail, Rose d'Hiver, Marvel of Four Seasons) have sometimes worked, sometimes not worked. The AG Marvel of Four Seasons was especially hard to grow. The seeds either didn't germinate or the seedlings died. The same variety of seeds from Rare Seeds grow fine. Your lettuce plants all look wonderful! 🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬

Thanks, lynnee. That AG Marvel of Four Seasons is the worst, closely followed by that Black Seeded Simpson. Of the AG Heirloom Greens planted 2/24, you can guess which two aren't sprouting. I have had some nice AG Rouge d'Hiver, and I even bought some seeds to try some day, but I accidentally put one in with 5 Parris Islands, andit has not sprouted yet, either. I'll give it a few more days, then cover up the hole. The Merlot, on the other hand, is happy lettuce and almost too pretty to harvest. But only 'almost' -- I think I have about used up the AG lettuce pods now, and I don't plan on buying any more.

Merlot is wonderful! I plant a pod of that now whenever I start a new lettuce garden. It tastes good, grows fast and big, and doesn't bolt for the longest time. Rare Seeds sent me a free packet, and I tried it mainly because it was such a dark color.

Lettuce update from Chez Clovis -- As you can tell from the picture below, I have been harvesting regularly from the Merlot and the AG Mystery Greens -- Lot of good tossed salad and scrambled eggs here. And the Parris Island and miscellaneous Heirloom Greens are coming right along. Parris Island Miscellaneous Heirloom Greens Looks like Parris Island and Heirloom will be ready when the Merlot and the Mystery Greens fizzle out.

Have you tried a Jericho lettuce? I just grew a Parris Island and a Jericho at the same time. I like them both alot but thought the Jericho was just a little bit better.

Looking good Clovis Sangrail . Hopefully after outdoor garden season I will be able to post in a more timely manor. Still have a very long way to go. I lost my helper for the most part so it has become more work than pleasure. Weeds never sleep just like Rust never sleeps :P .
