2024-02-07: Day 0
Seeds: AG lettuce pods from Salad Greens kit, old-style with named varieties. Planted: 1:00 PM Aerogarden: 2023 Harvest Elite Slim Location: North 40, kitchen counter Water: tap, filtered, Big Berkey Preferred PH: 5.5–6.0 Preferred EC: 0.8–1.2
CONCLUSION: Nope, didn't like having 4 plants in a Harvest Slim. They overlapped, didn't get good airflow, weren't happy and were a pain to harvest. I am trying 3 plants next go (which began 10/8/2024).
THE END
Will add nutrients upon germination or sprouts.
No clue as to how germination will go. The pods are from the new, open box unit I scored on eBay. Hoping the kitchen counter will be friendly for lettuce. I have only used 4 of the 6 pods, so there is good spacing and I have a couple spares from the kit I can plug in if germination fails.

2024-02-13: Day 6 I’ve got sprouts, except in the Paris Island pod, which appears to be a dud. They aren't above the labels yet. I have added a Black-seeded Simpson pod in hopes of that sprouting. Time to add nutrients. I’m going with a little cal/mag and AG liquid nutrients.
Nutrient mix (per gallon) 0.6ml GH CALiMAGic 6.0ml AG liquid nutrients 5.0ml 3% hydrogen peroxide
Nutrient mix pH: 5.5 Nutrient mix EC: 0.9

2024-02-19: Day 12 The initial sprouted pods are growing with tiny leaves just above the labels. Nothing in the Black-seeded Simpson pod, looks like that pod is also a dud, but I’ll leave it in for now. I’m going to put the last pod “Red Sails” from the kit in. Took pH and it has drifted up to 8.0, I’ve added some pH Down. This could also be why the lettuce looked troubled. But for now, until I’ve got healthy looking seedlings, the office it is.

2024-02-27: Day 20 Rinse and refill. The last added pod sprouted, so I have the desired 4 pods of lettuce in the unit and growing. The dud pods have been removed and replaced with spacers. The lineup, from left to right is Marvel of Four Seasons, Rouge d’Hiver, Deer Tongue, and Red Sails. I haven’t taken a photo; the Red Sails is barely above the pod cover. I raised the light hood an inch.
Nutrient mix (per gallon) 1.0ml GH CALiMAGic 6.0ml AG liquid nutrients 5.0ml 3% hydrogen peroxide
Nutrient mix pH: 6.0 Nutrient mix EC: 0.9

The rinse and refill caused the Rouge d'Hiver to go totally droopy-wilty. Worried me, but I turned the fan that I use on the Harvest 360 cherry tomato around and let it blow gently across the room on low speed toward the lettuce and it's all happy again this AM.

I have had peppers react to a nutrient change, all of a sudden the plant is leaning at 45 degrees, but the next day it is fine.

None of the other lettuces twitched a hair, LOL!

It's not necessarily due to the nutrient change.
When you do an R&R, you may be shocking the plant with a water temperature change. The strong light from a bounty elite on a dark colored deck, for example, causes the water in my bowls to run about 80 degrees. Your tap water in the winter can be quite cold.
Also, when you do an R&R, the differential in pH might be substantial.

It's still interesting that only one of the four lettuce plants was upset. I totally agree with you on the other points! My tap water is COLD right now! I can barely stand to wash veggies for juicing! And since my pH is frequently drifting upward, a rinse and refill takes it back down a notch. Though I do let the nutrient mix sit about for a half hour or so before testing pH and subsequently using it. So it's not going into the reservoir straight out of the tap! Anyhow, I did move the order of the plants about, because of the one pod that had the later start. Now the order from left to right is Marvel of Four Seasons, Rouge d'Hiver (the wilter), Red Sails, and Deer Tongue. I'm hoping being more under the light will help the Red Sails catch up.

2024-03-12: Day 34Rinse and refill. My first harvest was last night. I really enjoyed my little salad with 3 AG Heirloom Cherry tomatoes. Switching the lettuce to GH MaxiGro. It does mix up stronger, but the lettuce drinks a lot, so we’ll see how this goes. I like MaxiGro; it brings my high pH tap water down with no need for any pH Down! Nutrient mix (per gallon)1.0ml GH CALiMAGic 5.6g GH MaxiGro 5.0ml 3% hydrogen peroxide Nutrient mix pH: 6.0 Nutrient mix EC: 1.6 Just before first harvest: L-R Marvel of Four Seasons, Rouge d’Hiver, Red Sails, and Deer Tongue
