Snif Snif ..........After 7 years of carefully taking long grow time decks apart to remove the roots It appears I have broken my deck. I will still use it as I think it is not in a critical spot but I know superglue will not mend this one. Is a high stress area where a locking tab is. Any suggestions ? It broke while I was scrubbing it with a brush after it was already apart.   20240506_213003 |

Ah, too bad! It surprises me that the deck-locking tabs don't fail after half a dozen deck separations. Agreed that superglue won't hold it, and I don't think I'd want superglue touching the circulating water inside the deck. I'd reassemble the deck as usual, and then tape the two parts together where the tab used to be. I'd use black duct tape, I think--or something not derived from petroleum if I could find it. The tape will have to come off whenever you need to take the deck apart, so I'd turn down one end of the tape (adhesive to adhesive) to make a tab for easy removal.  LoveSalads |

LoveSalads Just a general FYI about superglue. I use it in my fish tanks to hold rocks together and live plants to rocks or driftwood. When superglue becomes wet it is inert = harmless. So if I were going to use anything on my Aerogarden as a glue it would be superglue or superglue gel. !Caveat!!!! is not on a live grow wait until you tear down. While it does become inert when contacting water it will not bind so, you want your surface to be dry and let it set before you start another grow. When I use it in the fish tanks I glue and let it set dry before it goes into the water. Fish are very sensitive to what is in their water/environment. THis is also a really good product. Saved me during the pandemic when m glasses broke and the eye place was not open

I have read and heard that bonding with UV light is like plastic welding and works great. I have never tried it but this would be a great test for it. I did tape the top with black electrical tape but light came through. I had to use the tape and roll it up the side/edge to block the light and don't know if that will last. The break did not impede the decks ability to channel water. So I need an added fix and am going to try it. |
