I'm having good success with growing baby bok choy in a bounty.
I'm wondering if anybody has ever tried to grow napa cabbage in an AG?
Napa has a smaller, more compact growth habit compared to regular green cabbage and might work ok.

I don't see why not, though I haven't tried it myself. Seems like I read that the napa "head" needs to be tied up/banded to keep it from spreading out like the other types of cabbage. Of course, it would probably be fine if allowed to do its own thing and produce a more open head.
ETA--also, a Bounty isn't required for most cabbage varieties; I usually grow them in a Harvest (bok choy, tatsoi, etc.) since they don't grow very tall and work really well with a Harvest's limited light pole extension.

The napa heads that I've seen seem to be quite a bit bigger than most of the bok choy I've seen BUT not nearly as big as a regular green cabbage.
I'm on the lookout for a "dwarf" or "baby" napa variety to try first.

I’m growing a small Napa variety called Little Jade from Renee’s Garden. It has started to to head imgur.com/a/uUEBErwI’ve also tried a normal sized Chinese cabbage called Golden Beauty from Baker Creek. It never headed. The leaves tasted fine and I kept it going for maybe 7-8 months until it bolted. imgur.com/DznIi8sIf the napa fails, I’m gonna try the Pixie baby cabbage from Renee’s. |

I also chose the "little Jade" variety. So far it's growing great. I planted it on one side of a bounty with one of the korean napa seeds on the otherside. The korean plant grew fine for awhile and then started to turn brown in the center and was growing rather mis-shapen. SO... I terminated it to give more room to the little jade. I have no idea when to harvest it???

How do you get it to grow so tall, Scarfguy? Mine stayed quite short the whole time. I wonder if it’s because I didn’t raise the light enough? Or maybe I need to add a trellis to keep the outer leaves up instead of fanning out. I’ve read somewhere online that I should harvest the outer leaves to get the plant to focus growing the head, but when I did that, the head actually loosened up a bit…

Hmmm... I have no idea... 
Here's my parameters: =====
I use Foxfarm Grow BIG fertilizer. I don't add at a regular interval but monitor the pH and EC and add fertilizer when the EC drops around 1.0. I try to keep the EC at 1.8 to 2.0. pH is usually around 6.0-6.5.
Light is currently 10 inches above the plant. It is a 250W full spectrum LED set at about 40% power.
Plant is at 37 days and I've changed the water (R&R) once @ 30 days.
I have not pruned the plant at all.
ALSO, there is a fair amount of sunshine coming through the windows in the mornings. Ya count discount the beneficial effects of REAL sunshine!  |

UPDATE: My first attempt at a napa cabbage is a failure. 
I took a look into the center of the developing head and it is all rotten.
Gotta re-think this one.

Oh nooo! I think mine did that earlier too. I just plucked the rotten inner leaves and then turned on the dehumidifier. Now the leaves are still growing happily. |
