I am growing dill in my aerogarden. After it started growing nicely I noticed another plant coming up through the pod, definitely not dill. I pulled it out and replanted it in another vessel. I could not figure out what it was so I looked into it on the computer. From what I can tell, it is a potato plant. I understand potato plants can develop fruit similar to tomatoes but they are poisonous. I now have about 300 little "fruits" developing on this plant that look like they will be cherry tomatoes. Would a potato plant actually develop this much fruit? There are no potatoes actually growing.

Seems like one potato per plant, and that'd be the root. Never was aware of what happens with a potato plant above ground.

Could it be a potato-leafed tomato plant, instead of a potato plant?

i would love to see it if possible ...and where did the dill seed come from? was it an AG pod or a custom seed from a garden? I would bet on it being a potato leaf tom like Mary mentioned. They are quite popular and yet, I have never seen a cherry tom one. I would love to see a photo.

I am interested in this. If possible please post a picture. I have heard of a few people who had have a tomato plant grow within their herbs. I guess there was a seed oopsie where ever then pod up the AG kits. I have seen a tomato grow in a basil pod and a mint pod so far.

I guess my dilemma is, everything I read says tomato plants only have yellow flowers. This plant has white. I will try to get a picture but I'm not sure how to do that.

What is a potato leafed tomato plant? Are the tomatoes edible?

Most of the toms we see and grow have jagged or serrated edges. There are a lot which have smooth edges on the leaves like the potato plant.(it has nothing to do with a potato except the smooth shape of the leaf) There are many heirloom garden varieties of potato leaf toms. However, a cherry one is new to me. I would LOVE to see a photo.

Well, like tomatoes and peppers, potatoes are also nightshades, so there's going to be some similarities. One of which is that their parts can be poisonous.

I must say, that is a very interesting plant, and one I’ve never seen before in the AG set-up, or other indoor gardens. And the fruit does not look like tomatoes.

Thank you for solving this mystery for me. Too bad it wasn't a tomato plant - I counted 304 fruits growing on it. And no potatoes.

Are you going to let it continue to grow?

Potatoes flower, but grow their potatoes underground. Plant it in soil in a big bag and let it grow. As long as the potatoes are underground and no sunlight touches their skin they should be good. If they are green, they are poisonous! Don't eat them! Hope this helps! Don
