My husband says it will take over the house soon. One plus is that the tomatoes are getting really big this time. The few ripe ones I ate yesterday were easily golf ball size.

Yes, I plucked those after the pic. I ate several for lunch and will roast the rest with onions, garlic cloves, Tequila Sunrise peppers, zucchini and baby bella mushrooms for dinner tonight. Nummers.

Great toms, BUT every time I see this thread under Recent Posts I think it is Shawn's toms even though she said she never grew toms. Is that because Shawn started the thread for Kate when she first joined?

So thrilled for your success on this project. Tell me, do you often trim a lot of foliage, or do you just let it do it’s thing? I did a lot when it was younger. Now I just remove old stuff and superfluous branches with no buds. |

My babies are starting to show their age, but they have a LOT of clusters of big tomatoes. I took several that were ripe last week. You can see them better now that they're starting to change color. They want to set new buds, but I'm clipping them off. I need to clean them up somewhat, too. Lazy.  |

I was picking ripe tomatoes and thought maybe I should take an image, as there won't be many more before these will be nothing but a memory. There are still a lot of green ones. They're trying to set new flowers, which makes me feel so guilty, but it's time. They've got some leaves drying now. It's tired. G-d Bless these lovely plants that gave us so much. I know I'm a freak getting emotionally invested in plants, but there it is.  |

I so get the feeling guilty, Kate. I’m going through that with my uber mature chives right now, which have even sent up a couple of blossoms (not good in herbs for those that don’t know). It’s time, but I can’t bring myself to end these plants which are still very happy and robust. Not as bad as the more invested tomato situation I know, but I still get it. We’ve had a good run with our gardens...   |

I mentioned awhile ago that this last set of tomatoes are larger than the last. While they're not all this large, you can see the difference between a "super sweet" grape tomato from the store, and one from the Red Heirloom. It's close to a golf ball in size, and just as yummy as ever.  |
