I was reading Park Seed and saw some gadget for outdoor tomato plants. However what caught my eye was the following:
I have no idea if this is true or not, but if it is I wonder if you can use this for AG's as well. Maybe using red paper around and under the plants? just a thought. Anyone growing tomatoes want to test this theory out?

How interesting!
If someone has only one plant, perhaps. All I'd need is my three competing for stature and breadth. Yikes!

The way I am understanding the post is that the red encourages the plants to grow up.But don;t we prune at 5 weeks to encourage lateral growth?Wouldn't it be defeating the purpose of that pruning of that 5th branch? I question if inducing leafy height vs bushing out more and budding is the thing we are wanting for the AG.

That is why I mentioned it was for outdoors but did not know if it would be good for the shorter ones. I have no clue but just found that interesting. Bu tnow that you mention it, that would be a problem with the AG's. Never growing tomatoes I did not think of that but should have with everything else I grow

My son, (40 this year), doesn't like them. He did as a kid, but as an adult, not so much.

The plants themselves are doing amazingly well, but it's too early in their life to tell whether they'll produce. I love tomatoes and especially enjoy cherry and grape for hand eating and salads.

I can't eat a salad without tomatoes and cheese. I also drink two big bottles of Spicy V8 Juice every week. I end up buying flats of tomato sauce and paste on a regular basis. I guess I am a tomato person. I don't grow them that often, though.

Stop Mary, It was not you! You helped me with Basil which was a success ... not the tomato. That was all on me,

I was the only kid I knew who couldn’t stand spaghetti with red sauce or ketchup. But I ended up really liking all things tomato as an adult. Canned tomatoes are a pantry staple.
