Stop me if I already posted this - I know I had started it but got interrupted, and it disappeared from my screen, and now I can’t find it so I’ll try again at the risk of repeating myself and boring you, lol. So I really wanted to plant replacement herbs in my Sprout seed starter with the idea of staggering my Harvest herb gardens, but I was fatigued and had put it off for days. Frustrated with my lack of energy getting in the way, I finally just loaded all my supplies on a tray and took it to bed to work on it. From wet sponges to tweezers to tape, marker, scissors and a multitude of seed packets, I put it all together in front of the tv in bed. It was such fun. I think the small size of the Sprout starter is what made this feasible to do on a tray. I will definitely be doing this again on tired days when I otherwise would not be able (so I can have fun with it instead of it becoming a chore). 6 days later (March 16), signs of life (and white fuzz, too, unfortunately)

I am glad you finally got it started. As for the fuzz, take a qtip with peroxide to them or just use some water and qtip to wipe it off.
Will these be planted in the ground on in an EB?

My lemon basils and cilantro will be AG, the lettuce basils and Genovese and the chives in a pot outside, and I don’t know what the green onion seeds will do. That one’s a mystery to me! This is the lettuce basil which I haven’t grown before. Huge!

Progress. One type of chives did not germinate while the garlic chives did immediately. Everything else has germinated except for the green onions in the foreground, but I do see a teeny sign of life on the left pod so maybe it’ll still work.

Very nice! Now I want one of those, LOL!
I replaced my Chives I'd started with the Mint & Thyme about 3.5 weeks ago that never germinated. Hopefully, this time it will.

One of my Sprouts I got for free with the purchase of my Bounty, so I didn’t mind purchasing the starter. That’s always a good sale to catch (assuming one likes the Sprout like I do). I planted at least 10 chive seeds per pod. So either the entire pack of regular chives is bad, or they take a really long time to germinate. It’s been 20 days...

If they are like my Rosemary, it can take a month and a half to see life.

Rosemary is really odd like that. I’m so glad you waited that out to see if it would do anything.

I separated the peat plug of the one that never germinated and didn't see any seeds of any size in there. I suppose it's possible they'd fallen out. I didn't check the new one. I don't want to mess with it.

Only about half of my seeds made it, but I’m very happy with those that did. Here they are transplanted into other machines. (And today I planted 3 more herbs with them to come up as well). Geisha Garlic Chives, Cilantro, Basil Lettuce, Lemon Basil and Genovese Basil Lemon basil (along with a pepper).

I love this stage of an herb garden. Not too small, not yet a mess. I’ve been snacking on the garlic chives. They’re delicious. This is is the Basil Lettuce variety that is supposed to get huge leaves. So far, yes, they are much bigger leaves than their Genovese sibling to the right. I’m eager to taste it.

You will have to give your assessment in the Flavors of Basil thread in the Herbs section when you do.

Oh good idea! I had forgotten about that thread. Don’t hesitate to remind me again once I do taste it.

More filled in. The Basil Lettuce is definitely beginning to live up to its name.

Maybe it was called Lettuce Basil. I’ll have to check the packet. It is a basil with leaves so big it’s like the growth habit of a lettuce.

I switched around some pods to allow more light to some fledgling herbs. I switched them with the established chives which don’t need much space. Meanwhile the lettuce leaf basil continues to grow. Oh and btw, I already harvested 2 big lettuce basil leaves and these biggies have already grown in their place!
