Today after I transplanted my herbs from this last garden, I started a new herb garden to stagger my herbs, and I started a Yellow Canary tomato too!

I could’ve organized them better. Toward the end I started running out of ideas and repeated some.

The Yellow Canaries were the fastest to germinate!

Yesterday I reseeded a cilantro, parsley and lemon basil for those that didn’t germinate.

The Yellow Canary tomatoes got big. Bigger than everything else, so it was time to transplant them and leave space for the others.

It seems when I grow chives in the Sprout it is never enough with just 3 pods! The starter would be PERFECT for me to grow chives galore! Your herbs are great..you always grow a lot of them and have success. So far you are the only one I have seen with a Seed Starter for the Sprout anywhere. There may be more here, but I must have missed them.

I just got one from Amazon(which is upping their Prime $$ next June) and am getting some fresh common chive seeds today at the market. How's that for impulse buying!! It's Mary's fault!

How's that for impulse buying!! It's Mary's fault! Happy to be of assistance, lol. I think growing all chives in the Sprout Starter is an excellent idea - they’re so skinny that you could utilize all the holes and have a fabulous supply. I’ve been putting 8-10 seeds in each sponge. They don’t all germinate, but it’s not too much plant if they do. It works out well, in fact.

Here is what’s left of my starter after transplanting the tomatoes and the biggest herbs. I have some basils, chives and cilantro left to transplant.

My herbs in the starter are coming up nicely, BUT I have green algae because the circles can't fit. Do you have that problem also, Mary? Harmless, I know, but a pain to view.

Yes, on every AG seed starter I’ve used, for the reason you cite. Just too much light. It’s very annoying, but kind of unavoidable it seems. If anyone has an idea to suggest, I will happily try it.

Can you make your own circles? I have done that. I used some black shelf liner (well liner from Mark's tool box) and cut circles and then used a hole punch to make the centers (had to punch a few times for size).

That would help delay it I think. Part of the problem is that the design of the starter has most sponges sitting flush with the deck instead of recessed like in the baskets so even with covers there will be more light than usual. And the holes are so close together that covers will be hard to place. But it’s worth a shot!
I will have to find some suitable material to experiment with.

I had Starters with the classics and also have one for the SS6 that I had before..never had algae with CFL. It is definitely the brightness of the LED...But I can live with that for the sake of the brightness of the LED's.

I had algae with all of them, but I think it took longer to develop in the older ones. Good point about the different lights, I never would’ve put it together.

Couldn't you just set the circles on top at least until they've germinated, then remove them? I'm guessing heating them even a little to set them in place might melt the deck...yikes.

they don't match up and the holes are covered in the neighboring pods. The pod holes in the started are way smaller in diameter.
