These are my 3 gardens containing varieties of basil, and their condition now drastically cut back, both for the health of the plants and to make pesto. Room to breathe, room to grow! The oldest...

My chives grow into the light every day. It's actually irritating that they grow so fast. Are yours like that? .

Yes, they do grow really fast, so much so that I will chop off the tops 2 days later and throw them on anything! Thank goodness I love their alium flavor anytime. Some herbs you have to be in the mood for.
Corinne I will check the brand of chives at home but I believe they are from Park. I have 3 types and one never germinated over 3 gardens so that is dead but I can’t remember which one. One or both of these are garlic chives. If both are, then they are 2 different kinds of garlic chives. (Because I remember, I think, that I had 1 regular chive and 2 different types of garlic chives)

I had several pods growing in the Sprout with the starter and I had to raise the hood every few days after the big snip. I discontinued and replanted using the regular 3 pod because that algae, harmless as it was, looked absolutely slimy and nasty. Green slime is not something I wanted to see every time I went over to the counter. GROSS!

I completely understand about the green in the Starter, it gets pretty bad. And while initially thinking how perfect the Starter would be for a lush chive garden, I got to wondering how that would turn out algae-wise. If we could fit some kind of covers over the sponges it would’ve been a capital idea. But I think you’re right, planted densely enough per sponge, the 3 pod can provide plenty of chives on a very consistent basis. Sans algae.

Are the holes too big to use the regular AG covers, even just sitting on top?

The Starter’s openings for the sponges are really close together, so the covers can cover 1 sponge properly but also block neighboring seedlings coming up.
