I’m so happy to find this forum after participating in previous ones in years past. Thank you, Corinne and staff.
I use a Brita water filter for water that I drink. Would you use it to fill your AGs?

I use my regular tap water so I can not help you but I am sure someone here can!
Please ask any questions you have we are all here to help and gain information from others!

hey happycamper! I use city tap water. I used to have to distill it, but when the liquid nutrients were perfected I just dump in tap water. But I don;t know the quality of your tap water. Mine is LOADED with minerals, though...the kind that forms little pebbles in the faucet aerator after a year or so.Sometimes I know when the City water plant is fooling around with purification and my plants don;t look happy.
But 'why' are you using Britta?? Filters do not correct hard water. If you have hard water and still are experiencing problems with the current nutrients, then distilled water is the one that corrects the problem.I used to have (and still do) countertop distillers that worked great. They also sell for about $1.25 @gallon at the chains.

Thank you, Shawn and Corinne.
I use a Britta filter for my drinking water, so I thought perhaps it would help keep my greens from absorbing lead, chlorine, etc.
Any thoughts on this?

Happy, have you considered calling your water company to ask what type pf water you have? They can tell you if it is hard or not Also do you have a water softener on your water for your home?
I know here in Jersey or at least where I am we have our own water shed. In the winter they add minerals and stuff so it is harder then. However for me I just just my tap. My brother on the other hand lives in a Southern state where they have water softeners on their homes. For this reason he uses distilled mixed with tap (to save on money). I also know another person who has really hard water and has an in home distiller (electric or on the home I do not know). While many others just use tap.
I know this does not help you, I am sorry. I have not ever had a Brita. However here is a page about water from Aerogarden (FWIW, I do not listen to some of what it says but that is me). AG Water Requirements. After reading that and if you have or use certain waters not "recommended" you may have to test your pH levels and adjust accordingly.
I hope this does not confuse you more.

Thank you, Shawn. I took a look at the page you linked to.
Actually, since I just grow greens, I don't think that hard/soft water is my concern. My concern is that the filter removes chlorine. Although I don't want chlorine in my food, perhaps it's best to use the chlorinated water to prevent mold from growing?
(But I guess that if distilled water is okay, then filtered water might be, too?)
Thanks again.

You can always give it a try and see what happens. Then you can report back here and it will be a learning experience for all. But you need to decide what you want to do

In looking up info on the Brita, it removes the TASTE & ODOR of the Chlorine. But that is all it does.

Hmmm. Clever marketing! I’ve decided to use tapwater in my AGs. Thanks for your responses!

I've looked into it as well. What I've found is the Brita does remove all of the chlorine. It removes 99% of copper. But it does not remove Fluoride or bacteria.
Inside the AG, I use tap water. I filter the water for some cooking. I'm using the Brita now to filter the water I'm using to ferment hot sauce.

Sorry. I guess I am interpreting it wrong.
Chlorine
All Brita® filters are designed to reduce chlorine taste and odor from your tap. Low levels of chlorine are added to public water supplies to kill bacteria and viruses, but once you turn on your tap it is no longer necessary. It can cause a bad smell and taste in water. In addition to Brita® Faucet Systems and Brita® Bottles, Brita® Standard Filters, and Longlast™ Filters for Pitchers and Dispensers, and Stream Pitcher Filters help to reduce the taste and odor of chlorine that may be found in water.
One thing I do know..without something in this city water, my hair turns red from the bleach!LOL

I had to dig a bit. The chlorine also stops the fermentation process. I can't have that with my first fermented hot sauce.

I imagine at the very least the Brita can’t hurt. But it just might not remove all the stuff that you want. And if you have a water softener like me, theoretically the Brita won’t help because it can’t remove all the salt that is a problem for the plants. But I’ve never tried it so don’t know. I’d dearly love to just use my tap water. I buy tons of bottles of distilled. It’s a pain.
