I get it, the domes help to maintain humidity for germination of the seed pods. However after reading a portion of this web page, growing4taste.com/aerogarden-growing-tips-you-must-know/ I have concerns about introducing mold. Looking for input from others. What do you think, should we use domes or not and if so for how long?

Is it mold or Algae? White is mold, green is algae.
If you see any mold starting take a qtip dipped in peroxide and gently rub it off without touching the plants. I had it once. Did that and I never had it again. You can do t he same with the algae.
I use the domes until ready to come off.

No I do not have mold or algae. I was commenting on the statement made in the article. Never thought of mold before being an issue with the domes.

Upon reading your post, I thought you were inquiring what to do about mold on your domed pods. But now after reading the article, which is not from Aerogrow/Aerogarden Inc, but someone's idea written for Amazon, I see what you are referring to, ladyj.
"The domes can cause mold, which makes it more likely that you’ll end up with moldy or diseased plants."
The mold has to come from somewhere, so if the spores are on the sponge it will rare its head sooner or later, dome or no dome.Domes do not cause mold, as the article states.
One can get mold and mildew even on leaves of a mature project if it is grown in the kitchen! ..Because the spores got at the leaves of the plant! And it most likely signals a lot of work to try and save the project after months of growing.
I use domes...not all the time,, and often take them off as soon as I see a sprout forming ..just for visibility. I do not think the domes lead to mold....I have had mold on sponges that never even had a dome on them and they came from a kit...the spores just were on the sponge from the start!
Mold is some nasty stuff and detrimental to AG projects, BUT Shawn gave the best remedy in case it does rare its ugly head.

What exactly is the best remedy for mold? Since I am new, I don't know what I am looking for when it comes to moldy things. Any suggestions?

At the first sign of it take a cotton swab dipped in peroxide and gently wipe off. This only happened to me ONCE and it never came back. If it comes back or infects it further, I personally say ditch the project and start over. As Corinne stated if there are spores on the sponge there is nothing you can do. But I hear Neem Oil works. I since use the 60-Cell Biosponge from Park Seed. You also get more for your money. Never had an issue with these myself.
