I’ve put a number of herbs in damp paper towels to see how well, or not, they germinate. You can’t tell how well they germinate when you put them in the sponges. I did cilantro because, well, they’re always a problem. And I did 3 kinds of chives because IIRC one of these seed packets has never germinated, so I’d like to determine which one and throw it out. These have all been placed on top of AG hoods to take advantage of the gentle warmth of the lights.

I actually put some Cilantro seeds in paper towels as well since my luck in pods this year have been duds. Wishing us both luck!

Well I went to check my seeds today. I got a fair number of seeds that germinated of the Garlic Chives and the Geisha Garlic Chives. However the latter developed mold so I only used two of those seeds. I supplemented both sponges today, adding 4 and 7 seeds respectively.
I got zilch from the regular chives and the cilantro. Nada.

I just realized it’s only been 5 days or so so I’ll give the cilantro more time, but I’m not terribly optimistic. Who knows though, I’ve been surprised before.🤷♀️ And cilantro definitely needs more time.
The chives are probably a bust though.
