Sometime in the days after I planted the Jericho outside, I planted some inside as well. It will be interesting to see if they taste different. (These share space with the chives that were a paper towel experiment).

They're off to a good start! I always do well with Jericho, and look forward to your experiment.

I am interested to see the difference between in and outdoors Me too. Sadly, those outside have yet to germinate. I think I killed them. I either planted them too deep, or I over saturated them, or something. I should try to replant today after I swim.

These are looking good. Not so much their chive neighbors, but, that’s ok.

I like the way you planted them deep down inside the pod.

I had a center leaf of mine do that. I read up and it can be caused by not enough water. So make sure the bowl is always filled. Also it can be caused by a bruise of the leaf. Something rubbed it maybe. The article said just cut that off after you harvest and before you eat. So I left mine and it has not gotten worse. I might have rubbed against mine.

Eek! For some reason my lettuce turned into a condition I didn’t want to eat (maybe I let it go too long). Apologies for the oversight of a Before picture so you could see what I’m talking about. It was pale and spotty, and it’s poor health was confirmed by the aroma as I cut it. Just like when one lets store bought iceberg lettuce get too old. So Monday 10-1 I gave it a major trim as if I had the first harvest, and also an R n R. Fed with approximately 4-5 mg of AG nutes. Hopefully it’ll be happier. Meantime the chives will be happy for at least a week without being overshadowed.

I wish that I could help, Mary. But this is a problem I often encounter with my lettuces. These are the conditions I'm looking for with my lettuces that seem to age prematurely: - Too many seeds initially put in the sponge?
- Over-feeding?
- Just a short-lived variety?
When mine get that way, I just scalp them and eat what I can. (Often a bit bitter.) Then I start anew with new seeds/sponges.
I hope that yours will recover, though. Please keep us posted!

Thanks Happy. I can’t remember how many seeds I put in each sponge, but as I cut it I did note that the heads are remarkably dense. So much so that there were dead leaves embedded here and there. Like black dead, not yellow dead. I’ve never seen that before. I haven’t ever grown this variety so have no experience with it. I had been feeding it the Ionic nutes and might’ve dosed improperly. I’ve switched back to AG nutes since I know how much of those to use. I will see if the next growth is satisfactory, otherwise I will scrap it. Thank you you for your advice.

I am growing Jericho and I use 6ml of AG nutes in mine. I had a few dark brownish tips but I think that is from rubbing or cutting. I had a few dark leaves at the bottom as well as they are dense. I just pulled them off.
Do I dare say it, maybe it is the iconic? I have never used it in lettuce but I do know my herbs do not approve of it.

I wish my outdoor Jericho grew so I could compare. But someday soon.
Shawn, I take it that’s 6 ml in a Harvest? And yes it could very well be the Ionic, in my negligent hands.

How much AG nutes would you recommend in a Harvest?

I would start with 4ml. And then try 5ml. If you think it needs it go up to 6ml. I always put less nutes in lettuce. I think I learned this from Corinne maybe? But it has worked for me so far.
