Hi all, new to aero ponics. Love it. We are in the process of growing Thai peppers. Noticed one of the pods that has not blossomed yet has red spots in and around the pod. Not sure if it’s algae related Since now we are seeing algae growing around. I tried searched on this forum and on google with no results. Please help

Kevin, could you possibly post a picture? It would really help us try to answer your question.

Yikes! Those white decks really encourage algae.
My guess, and it is a guess, are that the red spots are mold.
I cured root rot with hydrogen peroxide. I am sure it would work on mold.
I mixed 1/2 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide with 2 cups water, and soaked roots and pod for about 10 minutes and it took care of it.
I am not sure how it would affect seeds or seedlings, but if the exposure was brief, maybe 3-5 minutes, it should be safe.
No guarantees, though.

That is something I have never seen before. Did you clean your unit before using? Have you tried to ask AG?

I cannot be sure but the reddish/brown spots I MAY have gotten on AG sponges before? On mine they looked more like the grain of the sponge that I never noticed until AFTER I was done with a project and assumed was part of the organic matter that makes up the sponge. But this looks more regular and darker....
The green algae definitely can be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide. I have gotten a little on the top of the sponge, but never all on the sides and stuff.

If it were me I would deep clean the unit. Thank you. So to deep clean, I see on aero garden website on guidance on that. Is there anything else I could use to dip the plants in? I don’t have hydrogen peroxide.

No no no... you don't want to dip those plants in anything to try and salvage them.It doesn;t look as if they even germinated, but were overwhelmed by the algae, never mind the red dots.. I would definitely start all over again because you have a very bad algae infestation and it will definitely spread even though the machine has been sanitized. I would also sanitize the baskets with some very hot or even boiling water and soap or other solution . I would throw away the used sponges and not even try to reuse them.
note: if something is covered by algae slime, no amount of hydrogen peroxide is going to get rid of it and allow the plant, seedling or un-germinated seed to live!!!! It is not a 'cure all'.

I place all my plastic cages in the dishwasher on the top rack.

I also put my old baskets in the dishwasher as well-- works wonders!

I place all my plastic cages in the dishwasher on the top rack. I do, as well. But sometimes that’s not enough to clean out the algae. So I put the baskets in a mesh bag and run them through the washing machine with my clothes
