Hello, I'm from Los Angeles. The Summers here have been getting to 109 degrees, and my yard gets devastated. All I can keep is bougainvillea and citrus trees. Herbs wilt and shrivel in the heat. A while back I got an Eco Cube Air off of Kickstarter. It came with absolutely no growing instructions and after three attempts at trying to get basil to grow, I set it aside. Then the company went belly up and the app disappeared from the app store, so there is no way to use it any more. Bricked. This put me off Aerogardens too, but then I noticed that all the controls were on the unit itself (no risk of an app disappearing) and a google search showed me that there were all kinds of resources to help me learn to grow.
So I saw the 4th of July sale and decided to make an Aerogarden my holiday project. I ordered a Bounty Elite from Amazon and started watching videos and researching. I got the shipping notice from Amazon, and my two day delivery had become a two week delivery. I had seen in videos that basil tends to crowd out smaller herbs, so I convinced myself to buy a Harvest Elite to grow small herbs in. It was available with overnight shipping and the Amazon man just delivered it.
I ordered some pods from the Aerogarden site... I plan to grow all six kinds of basil in the Bounty, and chives, rosemary, oregano, sage, mint and thyme in the Harvest.
Aerogarden Community on Facebook referred me here. Happy to soak up the knowledge and grow some great herbs.
EDIT: Oops! Just saw this isn't the welcome thread. I'll repost there.

Hello I am Michelle. I live in Mesa Arizona but was born and raised in Indiana. I am brand new to Aerogardening.. I bought my first Harvest Elite in early September and by mid September I wanted more. I now have a Sprout. Why so small? I live in a one bedroom apartment and am disabled as well. So tight on space and I need something not too terribly difficult. I look forward to reading through all the postings and trying to learn as much as possible. Michelle

I am so happy you discovered Aerogardening! It is one of the most satisfying hobbies I have ever had.
And fitting nicely into your small space is a wonderful bonus!

Hello. I am only 9 days in on my Golden Harvest Cherry tomatoes but I am addicted! Those are my personal favorites! For some reason, they are always more prolific in my AGs than the red heirloom cherry tomatoes. If you prune them regularly, you'll get an amazing number of tomatoes from just one pod.

Hi. I'm Jill and I live north of Chicago. My husband kept listening to me moan about how much I was missing my fresh herbs (even tho we aren't that far into winter yet) and that I should probably get a Miracle Gro like my sister in the Atlanta area has. He bought an AeroGarden Harvest 360 as a Christmas present for me and then gave it to me early to make sure I didn't also buy one. Normally, I grow parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano (5 plants so far), and basil. Glad some of those were included in the pods. After they've grown a while, can I replant them in pots so I can start growing something else (and to let them get bigger)? If I can, how long should I wait before planting them? Also, does it work well to get the plugs and plant my own seeds of the varieties I prefer?

After they've grown a while, can I replant them in pots so I can start growing something else (and to let them get bigger)? If I can, how long should I wait before planting them? Also, does it work well to get the plugs and plant my own seeds of the varieties I prefer? If you're growing a lot of plants at once, I would actually encourage you to transplant elsewhere as plants get a little bigger, because filling all of the slots can get a bit crowded! I don't generally grow more than 3 herbs in a Harvest, if I plan to let them get full-size. For transplants, anytime you can comfortably pull the pod out without damaging the roots is fine. I've always found transplanting to be rather forgiving from AG to pots, so long as you're not stressing the plants out with root damage. What size that happens at varies from plant to plant - I'm not sure I'd let anything get much bigger than 6-7 inches tall before transplanting. If you want to start smaller, anytime you start to see roots actually protruding out of the pods is a good time, just make sure you're watching the pots after transplant and not letting them get completely dried out for the first week or so, while the plants acclimate to their new home.
Of course, your mileage may vary with filling all 6 slots of the Harvest - I confess (not proudly) to being rather easily distracted, and tended to turn around to find my Harvests an unmanageable tangle and the water tank completely empty anytime I've used all 6 slots. Others (including you!) may be rather more on top of their game and can keep things nice and tidy with plants in all 6 slots, remembering to check the water indicator every day. It all depends on how much time and attention you're able to dedicate to it - once a week in my case, in which some fast-growing, thirsty herbs can get rather out of control!
As for the plant-your-own, I've always preferred that over the pre-seeded pods from AG. They work really well, and you get to experiment with different plants and grow exactly what you want! The biggest thing I learned about those was to pre-soak the pods before putting the seeds in. It works great, and opens up a lot of opportunities that AG isn't able to offer, plant-wise

jillr, I transplant flowers from indoor Aerogardens to outdoor pots all the time. (See my avatar.) It works fine, as long as I can pull the root bundle straight up out of the AG deck. I don’t try to remove the plant from the plastic pod—I just put the plant into soil with the pod at soil level. Often I have to cut the roots apart to get the young plants out of the AG. If the roots are long, I just curl them around under the pod when the plant goes into the soil. Then I water the plants very thoroughly for the first few days, to help them transition from growing in water to growing in soil. The pots have drainage holes so that the roots don’t stand in water. When I’ve grown herbs, I’ve transplanted them the same way. The transplanted flowers and herbs always do well.

Hello all, My name is Tammy and I am in the Greater Boston area. I recently purchased my first Aerogarden - a Bounty Elite. I wanted the 9 holes so I could try to grow a selection of things. Everything sprouted fine. I planted herbs, lettuce(s), and heirloom tomatoes. Initially, the light didn't turn on and I thought that was because it was not supposed to right away. Then it seemed as though it should. So I looked up some posts and realized there was a problem. I pulled the lighting post out and placed it back in and the light came on! Problem solved! No... Now the light never turns off. It is on 24/7. I have tried to reset it according to instructions I have read here and elsewhere. I have unplugged and plugged it back in. Any other ideas or should I just call the 800 #?
I fear I have a faulty lighting fixture and will have to return the unit -- purchased on Amazon and I am not sure if I could manage the process (but that is not your problem!)
Thanks for any words of wisdom.

Thanks for any words of wisdom. Hi Tammy! Welcome to AGA and sorry to hear you've got an issue. Starting with the easiest things...right next to the little wi-fi signal lights, on the far right hand side of the machine, try hitting the "Light On/Off" button. Maybe it got switched to "on" by accident? If that doesn't "fix" things...maybe someone else has experienced something similar and they can chime in. I don't know if the 800 # is manned today...if you FaceBook, I hear that lots of folks have good experience connecting thru AeroGarden's official FB page. Let us know, one way or another? And, I hope you'll enjoy AGA and keep in touch too! You're about to have a very full garden!
