I am new to growing microgreens. I just recently got an aerogarden elite and was wondering what the best setting in the aerogarden is for these when it asks me what time of garden is growing.

Actually, the manual states to use the Herbs setting.
Then using your Bounty’s Menu, go to Pump and select either Pump Settings or Pump Cycle (depending on your Bounty model) 5. Here, using your Control Panel, change the number of Minutes On to 5 and Minutes Off to 25 (ideal Pump Cycle for MicroGreens in a Bounty Garden)

Thank you. My instructions didn't state what settings to put them on. Just how to change the grow deck.

dragnz1377, If you have the special Bounty microgreens kit, be careful NOT to overfill the grow bowl by trying to fill it when the pump is on and water is up in the deck.

Thank you. I only filled it to the full here line. It looks like the water drains when the pump is off. I'm getting fuzzy white stuff on some of them. Is this normal?

Thank you. I only filled it to the full here line. It looks like the water drains when the pump is off. I'm getting fuzzy white stuff on some of them. Is this normal? Is it fuzzy white stuff like fungus, or very fine roots coming from the main root/stem? You can kill fungus by adding hydrogen peroxide from your drug store to the water. The basic formula is 3 ml per gallon of water, and 3 ml every 5 days thereafter. A Bounty holds a bit more than 1 gallon of water, so 2-3 ml per dose until the fuzz disappears is fine. I overfilled my Bounty Microgreens setup in the beginning by adding water to the Fill to Here line when the pump was working. I had to unplug the pump and bail water to keep the whole deck from overflowing! Hence the warning.

The fuzzies are probably the roots of the greens.. what are you growing? They are very prominent on radish greens.

Not sure how to post pics. One side is Aerogarden Superfoods Mix (broccoli, kale, purple kohlrabi, arugula, and red and green cabbage). Other side is Aerogarden Spicy Mix (diakon and purple radish, green and red mustard, arugula, and cabbage). It looks like a feather. It doesn't seem as prominent today, but not sure if the greens are beginning to cover it up.

If you really enlarge the top photo in this link, and look at the middle of the greens on the left, you may be able to see some feathery exposed roots. (This may not work, because the photo is NOT a closeup to start with.)

Has anyone tried using the Microgreen kit and substituting cheesecloth for the felt? I read somewhere that that is a much cheaper alternative to the felt sold by Aerogarden. Tried it a couple weeks ago and nothing sprouted. Not sure if I didn’t use enough cheesecloth or if it’s my seeds. I am thinking the cheesecloth since I used seeds from different packs and nothing grew. Anyone have any tips on the best way to do this?

I tried the cheesecloth method, as described in Aerogarden Experiments on YouTube. My sprouting mix seeds sprouted, but rinsing and harvesting the microgreens proved difficult, because I didn't cut the cheesecloth to fit the sprouting areas, but spread it across the whole deck. If you want something cheaper than the precut AG felt, you can buy all kinds of sprouting cloth in large sheets from seed companies (e.g., Johnny's seeds, or Territorial seeds (I think)). It works fine when cut to fit. The Harvest is best for growing AG microgreens, because the specialty deck is totally swappable with the original grow deck (nothing needs to be taken apart, unlike the Bounty).

I will check that out. I used a double layer of cheesecloth cut to fit each section in the Harvest. Could have been my seeds but I mixed several different kinds so it seems unlikely they were all bad.

swimmom500, it IS odd that your seeds didn't sprout. Maybe your cheesecloth had too-large holes, so that the seeds didn't stay wet between the regular deck floodings?

When I bought my newer bounty I bought the microgreen kit. They were delicious but stunk up my entire room. Not a nice plant spell at all. Is this normal or was it the particular microgreens I selected ? I have not grown those since ,as I sleep in the room the newer bounty is in .

I use these -- Micro mat mini hydroponic grow pads Actually, I use them in the Harvest microgreen tray - not sure if you have a harvest or Bounty, but they fit perfectly in the Harvest microgreen tray. Another alternative is cutting heavy duty bamboo paper towels to size. I use these in my rectangular (not Aerogarden) microgreen tray. Very odd that your seeds didn't grow on the cheesecloth though, I would have expected them to.

I have never had an issue with any scent / odor coming from microgreens, and I grow them almost continuously. I think if the microgreens smell funny, it's an indicator of mold, meaning they are probably too wet.
