I harvested and dehydrated some sage, here it is in a 4 oz jar. Today I'm dehydrating dill and parsley is next. Oooh. Someone's going to have to teach me how to do this. Sounds like another piece of equipment to buy. I showed my little eggplant the picture of your eggplant, and I told the little guy I had high expectations. And all he said was 'I am Groot' in a teeny, tiny little baby eggplant voice. I think he has been watching too much television.

Clovis Sangrail -- you can dry herbs the old fashioned way... tie the stems into a bundle and hang up someplace warm and dry till they get "crumbly." If you just HAVE to have a new gadget, scan Amazon for a dehydrator that will suit you. There are basic models up to the "let's make jerky from an entire deer" model.
Some ovens and countertop ovens also have a dehydrating feature. Once the herbs are sufficiently dried out, crumble them and store in an airtight container.
Oh, and my Fairy Tale is 77 days old so give Little Groot some time.

Garden update, 12/16/23 -- Today I planted some Borage . In other news, baby Fairy Tale eggplant has grown up to where he was starting to bump his head on the dome. Scallions are growing better than I ever expected from what were basically garbage trimmings. And I told Santa I would like one of those dehydrator things for Christmas. I can't keep up with the basil, so I have to find a way to keep it longer. And I have a wonderful recipe for steak moutarde de dijon from back in the seventies when we were not afraid to use two sticks of butter, a pint of heavy cream, and a couple of shots of cognac to sauce up a filet. (It does have basil in it, too.)

The basil in your moutarde de dijon is what makes it healthy for you.
I never heard of borage... I'm off to the google machine.

Borage is an old school garnish for a Pimm's Cup, but I've read you can make salads and soups out of it, too. I've never tried it, because you just do not see it in U.S. supermarkets, so now that I can, I'll be growing my own. It produces a little blue flower that's edible, hence the drink garnish. I linked to the wiki article in my post above. Here's King Charles nursing a Pimm's Cup, probably at Wimbledon. Note the unhappy look on his face. That's probably because there's no borage in his Pimm's.

Sounds like you have a great relationship with your baby eggplant.

I have an Excalibur. I really like it. I get better delicate herbs with it.

That's probably because there's no borage in his Pimm's. I hate it when that happens.

Lynnee--is the NESCO loud? I ordered a Cosori and it sounded like a jet plane taking off in the kitchen. Since it has to run for hours, I decided that one was a "no" and it has been shipped back to Amazon. I want to find a small model (just for herbs) that works well and is quiet.

slw, my Nesco dehydrator is very quiet. I'm sure it makes some noise, but I don't remember anything remarkable about it.

I'm soaking the right side of the Farm Plus today. I'm thinking Black Summer Pac Choi in there. I finally got the replacement pumps.

Rinse and refill day for the Italian Dandelions and the upstairs Tatsoi.
Plus I thinned my four equally nice looking AG Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes seedlings to ONE.
Not sure what I'm doing with the Italian Dandelions, even with the AG nutrients, they were getting what looked like nutrient burn. Playing that one by ear and hoping for the best. They aren't dead yet!
As for the upstairs Tatsoi, one of the plants is looking more twisted than rosette-like now, so I'm wondering if bolting time is near? That garden is about 3.5 months old, so it won't surprise me if it does.
Pictures of the above are in my garden threads!
Also have four sprouts in my cilantro garden.
After a rest, I need to check on the downstairs gardens. For sure I need to harvest lettuce. Then I hope to do some more work down there, to get it ready for further garden set up and planting. Probably won't get it all done today though.
Christmas came early ... I had a second Harvest 360 on the list and it came the other day, though I don't know who bought it for me yet. It's sitting in its box until I get more space cleared.

Today I did R&Rs on three Farms during the second half of the Niners game. (Missed some of the best stuff.) I can't get over how fast and easy this is, when I use scarfguy's battery-pack-powered siphon!

They aren't dead yet! I'm not sure if this is helpful at all, but I looked at the nutrient requirements for dandelions (couldn't find them for Italian Dandelions specifically), and it looks like they prefer an EC range of 1.0 - 1.8. When I mix up a batch of AG nutrients at the recommended 'dosage' (11ml per gallon), the EC measures about 1.8. So, you'd be in the range, but at the very high end. Maybe dilute the nutes a bit? The Italian Dandelions look really interesting - very nutrient rich. Interested to see how they do for you.

Re-started 3 gardens yesterday. I'm having a hard time with Thyme for some reason lately - keeps sprouting then dying (looks like damping off). So pulled that (Harvest Slim), sanitized the garden, replanted with RO, added a bit of hydrogen peroxide, and will try again. Terminated a lettuce garden with Lalique lettuce (Bounty). One of my favorites for crispy lettuce, but this one was getting old (probably close to a dozen harvests), and close to bolting. Re-planted with Black Seeded Simpson, Green Butter (Salanova), and Freckles Romaine (3 each). Also terminated a Harvest with more lettuce (Green & Red Salad Bowl). Same as above...just at the end of its time. Replanted that one with some flowers (Petunia Double Madness & Lobelia Fountain Mix). Curious to see how the Lobelia fares in hydroponics - it's a pretty flower. Contemplating on whether to terminate the Iznik in one side of my Farm 24 XL. Every time I think of doing so, I get another 2 - 3 decent sized cukes. Really wanting to plant some bush beans, but may wait a bit. Did some pruning of the bush tomato (Super Bush from Renee's Garden). That one is looking great. I'll put a separate thread in the tomatoes forum, but we could have some slicing tomatoes on the way, yay! This morning, after our power went out from this crazy rain/wind storm I had to run around re-setting the time on all the AG's. Always fun.
