Today I terminated the AG Green Pepper in one of my active Farms. After more than 3 months, there was a lot of sediment. I decided to test scarfguy's siphon with and without the filter basket thingie. The filter basket didn't pump out sediment, as expected. The plain tubing did pick up sediment, but only when the tube was positioned directly over or very near to it. The pump seemed to run equally fast with either intake method. I love this siphon! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BL9QQ5G6/

Doesn't take much to make you happy! lynnee !
I never had any luck sucking up the sediment with any siphon.
I recently posted that I stopped using the AG nutes because of all the sediment that's left behind.
Yesterday, I cleaned my first bounty where I never used the AG nutes. I used IONIC, GH, and FoxFarm.
When I cleaned the bowl, there was absolutely no sediment. The pump was clean, and the inside surfaces of the deck were much easier to clean.
There was a very thin deposit of sludge on everything but it just wiped right off.
No more AG nutes for me. Although, they are of good quality and provide really good nutrition for all the different plant varieties.

Ha! You are a sensitive soul, scarfguy! The AG nutrient sediment isn't particularly attractive, but it washes right out of the reservoirs with just a little water, and my dishwasher finishes the job. I almost took a picture of the pump. It was so filled with roots and covered with gunk that I thought of the yucky photo you posted not long ago. However, the only thing that I discarded was the filter. They're hard enough to clean when there are only a few roots.

Started the 2nd Farm Plus today. I had one side sanitized and I wanted to get some peppers going. I planted 3 pods of Cayenne and 3 pods of Poblano on one side. Over the next week, I'm going to sanitize the other Farm side. I'm also going to get 2 Bounties ready to go. I will end up with at least 3 varieties of peppers, perhaps 4. I will grow 2 plants of each. The 2nd Bounty may be set up for a couple varieties of Sorrell. I have seeds for a Blood red veined variety of Sorrell. I also have seeds for a French variety that is just green.
When I go back to work on the 2nd, these gardens will be started.

Today I did pretty much anything I could to delay wrapping gifts. Tested all the gardens, adjusted where needed. Filled Aerovoirs. Planted a Harvest Slim with some Asian greens. Planted several Kratky jars (Outredgeous lettuce, & Pansies). Finally wrapped all the gifts. Pleasantly surprised to find several large holiday gift bags left from last year.

I was trying to clean the lens on my phone camera, and the little plastic lens protector slid right off. And apparently, it had cataracts, because look at the improvement in phone pictures -- On the left -- cilantro. And on the right -- my borage has finally sprouted.

I haven't been keeping up with things except for water levels and the random "feed me" lights blinking. Today I noticed the bell pepper plants have absolutely HUGE leaves compared to other peppers. The little plants are only about 9 - 10" tall but have really large leaves.
Also, I haven't trimmed any side shoots on my H19 cucumbers nor on the Izniks and those are looking really bushy. I need to take time tomorrow to re-route and trim those vines, and add more trellis to the Farm.

Those huge leaves are on the initial leaves, lower down on the plant. Once the smaller leaves are established, you can remove the huge ones. I usually take them off a couple at a time until they are gone.

I got the cucumber vines trimmed and the additional trellis on the Farm. Much to my surprise there were 2 ready-to-eat Iznik cucumbers hidden in the foliage. My broccolini is looking good, but I have 9 of them in a Bounty. I just can't bring myself to toss any of them so we'll see how much of a mess that turns into.
Suddenly I have 4 poblano plants, just before I was about to give up on those pods.

I did wonder why your pictures were so blurry/hazy, but didn't want to say anything! This is much improved, so I'm glad your lens protector fell off! Your garden looks off to a great start! I grew borage outdoors back when I lived in CA in the early 1990s. I loved the blue flowers for garnishing salads!

I have a book called "The Lost Book of Herbal Remedies" by Apelian and Davis. It has quite a bit on Borage, almost two pages. Most plants have a half page.

Just planted one of my Bounty Elites!
Kale, two varieties, Dwarf Siberian and Russian Red. I wasn't sure how many pods to plant, but went with 4, as I didn't want a super crammed unit that I couldn't harvest or tend easily. I put the trellis in place, though I'm not sure if that was necessary or not.
I'm excited about this, as I've never grown kale in an AG before!

It's been a busy couple of days, so I'll split this up into a couple of posts. First, look at what Santy Claus brought me -- So I cleaned out the Jungle -- -- and dried a bunch of basil. I now have thyme drying, too. And I moved a borage into this unit, started a new Genovese basil, and installed that overpriced Harvest trellis to see how it would work out. I think the basil is actually holding up the trellis rather than the other way around. This is becoming my bartender's garden.

Thanks. It was a way nicer one than I expected. It will dry veggies and herbs, and it will also make jerky and dog biscuits. And heating element is on top and sealed off from dehydration chamber. (And also yogurt, but that would make me gag thinking about milk curdling in there.) I spent this evening stripping dried thyme leaves from their stems. Next time, I will get a bigger jar and leave them on the stems until I use them. Then I discovered that you can put basil in a mai-tai. I might have sipped it a little before I decided to try the basil. I had to poke the leaves down in there and muddle it a bit with a straw to get the flavor, but it is actually tasty. (Next time, I'll muddle it a bit before I shake it.) Basil -- It's not just for spaghetti sauce and Thai curry any more.

This morning gave the scallions a haircut -- -- then grabbed a few basil leaves and made this -- Scrambled eggs and sausage with scallions topped by a really poorly chopped basil chiffonade, accompanied by pickled onions and toasted French boule with Irish butter. Mazetta made the onions, and Hy-Vee made the bread, but I made the eggs and grew the basil and scallions. (Some people call them green onions, but really, they're scallions.)

I didn't do much today; just topped off water and picked a few tomatoes and banana peppers. Tomorrow I plan to terminate my banana pepper plants and move small poblano plants into that Bounty. I also need to ditch some cilantro pods that didn't germinate and move some stuff around.
It'll soon be time to start some seedlings for my outside raised beds. I'm getting garden fever since the seed catalogs have begun arriving.

I harvested a rather notable amount of Tatsoi this evening from the Classic 7-pod that was converted to LED. There are THREE plants growing in it and as you can see, they were overdue for harvesting! Before:After:That's a large pasta bowl full! I took my haul upstairs, chopped it coarsely, and along with a large stalk of celery, a medium zucchini, half a lime, a bit of ginger root, a few small Italian Dandelion leaves from another AG unit, and one small Fuji apple, made 3 cups worth of fresh green juice with my Sana 727. Now you might not think mustard greens would be all that nice in a green juice ... BUT YOU WOULD BE WRONG! Tatsoi are quite mild for a brassica and they give green juice a rich, full flavor. Not to mention lots of vitamins! I thought it was delicious and hubby pronounced it the best green juice I had made yet!

Tatsoi are some of the prettiest non-flowering plants, IMO. And the juice sounds very good.

Your tatsoi looks marvelous! Green juice, like everything else, tastes so much better when made with fresh-from-the-Aerogarden ingredients. That's why I usually have some kind of lettuce going.
