Found well-hidden ripening tomatoes! Just starting to turn. These are the AG Heirloom Cherry toms in my Harvest 360. Photo taken yesterday at day 89 after I did a rinse and refill. Although I'm wondering if these are going to be red like they are supposed to be, or possibly an orange tomato. I've never actually grown the Heirloom Cherry toms before, only the AG Mega Cherries.

They'll be red. You can harvest them once they "break orange" like that, and let them turn red on the kitchen countertop if you want. The AG Heirloom Reds are really expert at hiding their fruit, so keep checking underneath the canopy to keep from losing some to overripeness. It always makes me mad when I prune and find tomatoes that are too far gone to eat.

I'll keep an eye out, because yes, I hadn't noticed these AT ALL until handling the plant during the rinse and refill, even though I'd been checking the most visible cluster daily for signs. I had to trim a couple leaves to photograph these, they are in the middle of the plant.

Today I am ending my broccolini gardens. They are still doing great but I'm tired of them. Unless you want an "occasional" broccolini I don't recommend them because it takes too much garden real estate to get enough florets to serve 2. Since I am planting my outside raised beds those 2 Bounties will be in dry dock for a while.
I also ended the spinach garden in another Bounty. It lasted about 50 days and 3 "harvests"... never enough for cooked spinach but fine for salad.

I have quite a few AGs sitting idle right now. I have moved outside to the raised beds; so far I have planted tomato plants, yellow squash, dwarf okra, zucchini and a lot of cucumbers. I ran out of garden mix soil for the new Earthboxes and City Pickers so I had to take a break until I get more.
I started all of that stuff in AG seed starters and I have to say that I won't do that again. The roots really make a tangled mess in those things, and they get damaged when trying to pull them out. Tomatoes seem to work best in them but I will just use normal AG decks next year... or stick with soil in seed-starter trays under the AG grow light panels. The soil cups definitely work best when transplanting.
I still have banana peppers, poblanos, bell peppers, a lettuce garden, 3 cucumber gardens, bok choy and 4 different cherry tomato varieties in various AGs. Nothing exotic!!

I've replanted my Farm 24XL & 12XL and my Sprout. This time I have a lot of tomato starts in them for outdoor planting in May - 8 different varieties. The plants that will remain are 2 Veranda Red Hybrid tomatoes, a Poblano & a Banana pepper, 3 Genovese Basil, 4 different lettuce, 2 chives and 1 Arugula.
I can't begin to thank the people on this site for all their assistance, both in growing my first plants and how to clean-out the gardens to prepare for the 2nd planting. I can't imagine doing this without them!

Didn't do too much. I found some mold on a couple seeds of my first wheatgrass tray growing alongside an AG Harvest Elite Slim. I decided to harvest and juice early, rather than getting more mold and having to toss the tray. But I didn't have enough growth at 3" high, so I only achieved a teeny tiny two teaspoons of juice. It was CRAZY SWEET! I'm not sure yet if I like it. It was interesting. I harvested my first AG Heirloom cherry tomatoes yesterday. Will probably eat them tomorrow, as well as do a first harvest on my lettuce, which needs it. Just been busy and tired, and it was rainy today, so I had the cats underfoot and was scared I'd trip. It was a near thing twice! Day 95: AG Heirloom Cherry TomatoesDay 32: AG salad kit lettuces. (L-R: Marvel, Rouge d'Hiver, Red Sails, and Deer Tongue.) The Red Sails is a little behind the curve. I tried first with the Parris Island pod, no dice, then with Black-seeded Simpson, again, nothing sprouted. I've got to harvest for sure tomorrow so the Red Sails can get more light. Marvel too. Tonight I planted a tray (same one I used for the wheatgrass) with the AG Spicy Mix microgreen seeds. No pictures. Too tired.

I had some free time this weekend so i re-arranged my garden room. I think i am past the point where my cat wants to wreck things, so i changed up a bit. I do still keep his catnip in a small tent area - just to avoid temptation. my two tom's on bottom are on the 2nd crop- and all the rest of the tom's
are all from a leaf clipping of the original tom plants. i had no intention of growing so many of the toms- but they took off so i went with it. the 1 empty garden will be where i transplant my cukes after they start to grow a bit more. my lettuce has seen some better days- but i think i had it a bit to warm for them- maybe now while in open they will perk up a bit. the 3 small plants on second shelf are sweet cherry peppers, and in the one garden with cukes, i have
a pear tomato. catnip and basil in the small tent. i tried to sprout some chive seeds about a month ago, got nowhere ( but they were pretty old seeds)
by doing all of this- i noticed..... i got more room for some more gardens

Nice looking lettuce. Those AG salad 'kits' (Heirloom Greens and Salad Greens) can be maddening. There always at least one underachiever that either takes longer than the others to sprout, which puts it behind the rest of the kids in the garden, or doesn't sprout all. My nemesis from those mixed green kits has been Marvel and Black Seeded Simpson. They just don't sprout, but by the time I figure it out, it is too late to plant another pod because it will be overshadowed by the ones that did sprout. I think I have just about used up all the mixed green kits I've gotten for free with a garden, and I think that going forward, I'll just plant from my own seeds so my gardens can have all the same type. This has worked well with Parris Island and Merlot.

This has worked well with Parris Island and Merlot. I have had two Parris Island pods fail to sprout. I think I'm out of the mixed green kits, so next try will be with my own Parris Island seeds. Meanwhile, I'm eating some of my Rouge d'Hiver, Deer Tongue, and 3 Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes right now, here at my desk as I type this. Just a very simple salad, lettuce, tomato, olive oil, a little apple cider vinegar, and seasoning. And it's delicious! I had a big kale, Tatsoi, Italian dandelion, and cilantro harvest this morning. Made a lovely 3 cups of green juice, along with some cucumber, jicama, carrot, lime, and apple. Did a rinse and refill on the ground cherry tonight, as well as some pruning and rearranging of branches to get them supported by the trellis. Raised the light a bit. Harvested a couple more tomatoes from the Heirloom Cherry, they aren't 100% ripe, but it won't take long. And there are more ripening on the plant! I'm a little nervous because the plant is carrying a lot more tomato weight on one side!

Harvested microgreens, ate microgreens, and vacuum stored the extra microgreens in Mason jars for the fridge, to be eaten in the next few days.
Sanitizing the Harvest for the next microgreen grow. Also, it's day 3 on a tray grow (next to a Harvest Slim) using the Aerogarden Spicy Mix microgreen seeds, it will be fun to see how those do.
And being garden-minded today, I made MORE GROW SPACE in my office!
I fit an extra 4 foot table in. I'll put Harvests on that. This move did create a corner where getting to an AG unit might prove difficult. I'm thinking about locating an oscillating fan in that corner, and moving my tomato plant to the adjacent table. But first I need to get another oscillating fan! And another outlet strip with a 2-prong plug for the wall for the new table.

TODAY...
I sat down at my loom this afternoon to get some work done and,
reminiscing of my past days of artistic photography, I decided to snap a few iphone pics.
It never ceases to amaze me what wonderful works of art Mother Nature has provided for us on this Earth.

Wonderful photos, scarfguy. I have been meaning to tell you how much I love my beautiful scarf. Of course we had a very mild winter this year but I used the scarf a few times! You are a man of many talents.

Your scarves look absolutely beautiful! Wow!

Not to much going on today with gardens. I need to do a few rinse and refills, but as late as it is, I think that happens tomorrow. I harvested a meritorious amount of kale to juice, along with other non-AG grown stuff. It was lovely and hit the spot this afternoon. Kale harvest (in the striped cup)I'm watching my tray of Aerogarden Spicy Mix microgreens grow in front of my eyes! It's looking like it is a faster method than the AG microgreens kit, but it's early yet. Tray microgreens on day 5My Chijimisai is starting to take off, which is good, because I think the Tatsoi in the basement probably should be pulled in the near future. I've got two chard seedlings downstairs, but the other two pods didn't sprout and I soaked more seeds and put them in in hopes of getting another two started. Haven't seen anything yet, which is worrying me. However, the two seedlings that are going look sturdy and happy. Happily harvesting cherry tomatoes! I had another three with microgreens and eggs today. Hubby got one to taste. But there's more in the bowl ripening!

More lovely photos, pfunnyjoy! Your Kale was NOT grown in an AG? You could, of course, but I think you're saying it was grown outdoors? Inquiring minds want to know for sure!

More lovely photos, pfunnyjoy! Your Kale was NOT grown in an AG? You could, of course, but I think you're saying it was grown outdoors? Inquiring minds want to know for sure! The kale WAS grown in a Bounty Elite! I harvested 4 more large leaves today, and sautéed them with garlic to go with breakfast! It was all the OTHER ingredients that were non-AG, i.e. the apples, beet, lime, carrot, cabbage, ginger, carrot tops, and turmeric. My Bounty is a kale factory! Overcrowded, and I'm running higher EC than kale supposedly likes, but it's happy and green! While kale might survive the winter here if protected, it wouldn't grow. We barely get a glimpse of sun from December thru February. So I don't bother. Indoor kale is the way.

I'm nearly twice the EC kale supposedly likes, but when EC was lower, I had "pale kale." So I guess when one has over-crowded plants, sometimes nutrition has to be overdone a bit as well! It's my first time growing kale in an Aerogarden, so I wasn't sure what to expect. That harvest was not unusual! I harvest on this garden frequently, because I have to or the plants shade each other. Next kale garden, it will only be THREE plants, not four! And I may try lacinato instead. Or a couple lacinatos and one of the other two. Anyway, it's a good thing I like kale!
