Hi, my name is Sue and I have been an AeroGardener since last fall. I have grown lettuce, tomatoes, and herbs. Everything has tasted delicious and I am impressed with how easy they are to use. I had an issue with one crop that was attacked by little white bugs but other than that they are working fine. I am looking forward to learning what others are doing with their AeroGardens.

Hi everyone,
Just stumbled upon this forum through reddit. Was just exposed to Aerogardens during prime day actually. A deal popped up and it looked quite interesting. So I started watching lots of videos and reading about the different types and what you can grow. That lead me here. I'm actually unsure which to buy. I'm going in complete circles - there is 2 sprouts for like 80 bucks... which I though might be fun to get me started. I don't have too much space to work with, so smaller is probably a better option. However, after looking around and the thoughts and dreams of what could be - I started seeing the possibilities with larger models such as the harvest and bounty... and then eventually the farm plus. I live in a condo, and I feel like the farm plus is just going to take up way too much space. I saw a different deal that came with the bounty elite wifi, harvest and a sprout for like 280. But when I think of having to deal with 3 machines and the space for them - it feels like the farm plus might actually take up less room and be easier to work with... But I honestly don't know.
What i'd be interested in growing - (which simply may not be realistic given the space that I can offer up for it) lots of thai/asian herbs - we don't have an asian grocery here, so I can't even make many of the asian cuisine that i'm interested in. I have to drive like 3 hours away or order thai basil, lemongrass, galangal from online. Is it possible to grow lemongrass in these things? The base gets quite thick.
I'd love to do chili peppers/peppers and grape tomatoes... (which from what i've seen, looks to get quite wild and large... I have no options of transplanting plants and have no outdoor growing area either. Also don't get much light, which is why these aerogardens are very appealing for me. Which is why, as much as i'd like to grow chilis and tomatoes, it seems like it's just going to be too much for the amount of space.
Other produce - kale, lettuce for salads, cilantro, oregano, green onions, chives...
So in summary:
Herbs - thai basil, lemongrass, basil, cilantro, oregano, chives
Salads - kale and different types of lettuce
Vegetables/Peppers - green onions, thai chili peppers/other chilis, grape tomatoes.
With this kind of combination of herbs, salads, veges/peppers - what would your recommendation for a setup be, given that I have limited space to work with.
If I decided to just start off small, I was thinking I could get away with thai basil, lemongrass (if it's possible to grow it) or chives if not, and cilantro - in one sprout. Then in a second sprout - go with kale and two types of lettuce (or one lettuce and one green onion)?
And then just not grow peppers and tomatoes because I feel like it's just going to be too large.
If I went with the bounty elite wifi, harvest, sprout offer, then what would be the optimal setup for the herbs, salads and veges/peppers/tomatoes? Was thinking the veges/peppers/tomatoes could go in the bounty, herbs and green onion in the harvest and the kale and 2 lettuce in the sprout? Really don't know. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, I just started typing this in response to the introduction - and realize it might be better to just say "hello, i don't have any aerogardens" and then post this in some question thread, but i'll leave it as is for now. If I need to move this somewhere else, let me know. Cheers

Hello and welcome epheks! I am happy you found us and that you posted. I hope you will find help here and know you will be supported if needed As to your questions. Let me give you some insight as to their footprints (at least those of which I own) and what the can grow. I am sure others will give you their insight as well.
Sprout: if you take a sheet of paper and fold it lengthwise, this will be the footprint. Remember that the light will only lift 12" from the deck so this would be good for some flowers and many herbs. However only gives you 3 pod openings. I believe someone has grown a mini tomato in here but can not remember offhand. Harvest: This has the footprint of a piece of paper. Again, like the Sprout, the light only lifts 12" from the deck. This is good for flowers, herbs, dwarf tomatoes (a few) and short pepper plants. I only know of one. The two will fit nicely under standard placed cabinets. The total heights on these from bottom of base to top hood lift is the Sprout 15.5" and the Harvest is 17" Extra, Ultra and Bounty: The footprint is approximately 1-1/2 lengths of paper and about a foot deep. The light will raise 24" from the deck. These are great for peppers, tomatoes, herbs, flowers and so many other things like cukes and eggplants too! (you can view the Gardens for members projects to see what they grow). From the bottom of the base to their highest hood is 34" Also if growing Peppers, Tomatoes or a Peppers and Tomatoes ... only two pods tops should be used as these grow taller and wider. I can not comment on any other machine as I only own the above. I hope this helps some. I have a Harvest on my Kitchen counter that always has Herbs growing. I have a Bounty, well two that always have peppers in them. A Harvest on my desk for Flowers and an Ultra i a spare room with lettuce. I started with one and have at least 10 if not more now  LOL. They are addicting and people find places to put them. We have members in houses, condos, apartments big and small and have a couple of units. Again I hope this helped some. For me personally I’d go with the Bounty/Harvest/Sprout deal (assuming it’s still available) because it offers the most flexibility. In a small space I’d definitely not order the Farm. With the combo you can put them in different places in your home. Additionally, certain things should not be grown together, so separate gardens is helpful. Lastly, I do not know if there is a dwarf lemongrass - that would be worth looking into. I have a lemongrass bush outside that I got from a regular nursery and it is absolutely huge. I’d love a dwarf kind. Anyway I hope you’ll post your first gardens here with us. We love watching people’s projects grow. And above all, I hope you end up loving AG’s as much as we do! |

Thanks @shawn and MaryLI kept going in circles until last night I went all in and ordered the Farm Plus... As mentioned, I don't have a lot of space, but I decided that the guest bedroom is going to become a little bit of a farm area. Hopefully it turns out not to be a horrible idea. Reasons I decided on this was - it felt like "less" to manage as opposed to three individual systems. Though as you mentioned, having three individual ones could possibly have made it easier to individually manage different types of plants as well as assist in the whole "space" requirement that I talked about. Still not sure it was the right move - but it is what it is and i'm going to just try and make the best out of the impulse decision for the larger one. Now, the question becomes - how to best mix and match my seeds. The silly thing is, the kit that it came with didn't have any of the seeds that my wife and I really want to plant! So I ended up having to order a bunch of custom packs to get the right ones. I know there are 24 pods and from what i'm reading, they shouldn't all be filled. I'd love to hear your suggestions on how to organize our plants. We would love to have: Veges/Peppers - Thai chili, red cherry tomato, golden cherry tomato, Green Onion (we have other peppers to plant, but it seems like it could get overwhelming?) Herbs - Thai Basil, Holy Basil, Cilantro, Chives, Thyme and as many other herbs that we can plant (there is a long list, but those are the top picks). Salads - Chinese Cabbage, Kale, and a combo of some other salad lettuce (not sure how many we can fit)! From that list, what sounds possible? How many of the veges/peppers, herbs, salads could we comfortably grow in the farm? Do you have any optimal setup for placement? This is all 100 percent new to me, so any advice would be appreciated. |

I do NOT own the Farm. But from what I have read just know in advance that it is HEAVY, well at least the box. If you go to the Search Function and enter Farm in What to search...then All Word AND Where to Search then in Thread Title, and at the bottom select display as threads, you will find what people are growing using their Farm (or try clicking here). Hope that answers some of your questions... and hopefully some Farm owners will add in. |
