I should’ve started this before, but my other generous herb gardens lulled me into a sense of complacency. I’ve got lemon and Genovese basils, Italian parsley, and 2 cilantros. One cilantro pod, though germinated, might not make it. The seed migrated it’s way to the top of the sponge and the base of the seedling, where the root starts, is very exposed. We”ll see!

I love a good herb garden. Speaking of basil, I need to make room in mine to grow your Lettuce Basil.

I hope you enjoy the lettuce basil as much as I do. One thing I really like about it is the texture. The leaf doesn’t get as thick when mature as Genovese. Why didn’t I plant a pod in this garden??! Lol. I think I rushed myself and didn’t go throw all my packets.

Within 2 days, my basil is noticeably bigger (doubled, really), and a true leaf developed on one cilantro , and I haven’t even fed it yet. Due to be fed today. Maybe I’ll get another growth spurt. (Edited to add: Though posted yesterday, the previous photo was snapped Thursday. Sorry for the back to back posts. )

Everything is up! Including the replacement basil. But, my parsley is not parsley, lol. Not AG’s fault this time - I used an AG sage pod and put my own parsley seeds in it, figuring I’ll just remove the sage if it grows. But the parsley didn’t germinate anyway.

It’s all growing, and soon harvestable. And, the parsley seeds in the sage pod have actually germinated too! Yay parsley. But, my basil looks a little wan. Not sure why. Just did the first topping of the two larger basils.

Ok, so, what I thought was sage from the AG sage pod (in which I planted parsley seeds) turns out to be thyme. Looks like thyme, smells like thyme. Funny. I cut it out today.

I moved these to one of the white machines in the kitchen (it had been in the laundry room. I don’t like having herbs there because of laundry lint) and I snipped off all the ugly parts, which were plentiful. Not sure why. (See previous pics. They got uglier than that.)

I used some of the parsley in my chimichurri the other day, though most of it came from another, more mature plant. I’m not thrilled with the flavor or look of the basils. I think this is another garden I under-dosed with Ionic nutes. I need to figure out how much to add to compensate. Edited to add: the Lettuce basil is not in this garden, their leaves are huge! Here a pic of lettuce basil from a past garden.
