Okay, my cherry tomatoes ran for 440 days before I decided to terminate them. They probably had another 6 months in them, but I am chomping at the bit to plant some full size indeterminate tomatoes. Some advice for the tomatoes that came with the salad bar, if you plan on running them less then 8 months, plants all twelve. If you are running longer then 8 months, plant only six and stagger them. My new tomatoes I am planting only 4, one in each corner. Also the magnetic trellis from AeroGarden is not up to the task for big tomato plants. I had to use some rope the last 5 months to keep them up. I will be using modified tomato cages from the start to keep the new plants under control. Also for greens, I can’t recommend Chinese cabbage enough. I have been harvesting the exact same plants for 214 days and they grow back healthy and full with no bitterness every time. Way more productive then lettuce and are equally good cooked as raw giving more versatility. The four tomato plants I will have going are Yellow Brandywine, Beefsteak, Costoluto Genovese and Cherokee Purple Heirloom. These range from medium tomatoes to large 4 pounders. Looking forward to them! The peppers are doing great as well with about 25 peppers currently ripening on the 4 Intruder Sweet Pepper plants. :-)

What a stunning garden!
I am growing Chinese cabbage that I transplanted outdoors, and it will soon be too warm for it. I love your idea of growing it indoors year round. I had no idea it could last so long.

Received a Farm XL for Christmas and have it all built and planted. Was unsure how many pods to plant initially and debated between filling all the slots of doing about half... this is the first post I've seen anywhere with detailed images over time which has given me an idea of how it might turn out. Ended up planning 9/12 on the left side with tomato's bunched up on one side and then a bit of space around 2 peppers; and using the right side for an assortment of 12 herbs and lettuces. Will treat the first cycle as a bit of an experiment and see how it goes! Thanks ravenlocke and hope to see you maybe post again here soon to let us know how your farm(s) are going!

Hello! I think you will love your Farm! I had a bunch of issues that were COVID related about a month after my last post. A bunch of my experiments with full size indeterminate tomato’s failed and when I finally found a couple that worked I ran out of my plant food and wasn’t able to get more for almost a month. I was able to keep things alive, but barely and I actually just ordered all new seed pods to start fresh for the new year. I will be going with the mega vegetable pods for the farm xl which consists of a mega tomato and two types of peppers for each side of the XL and I am also getting 12 Chinese cabbages for the normal farm on top, with 6 per side to allow spacing for more robust growth. I will post pictures when I get it all set up. Thanks for your kind words and keep in mind the failure of my farms was due to supply constraints back when everything was closing down or difficult to get due to the pandemic. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! :-)

Day 4 here and signs of life on a few of the salad/lettuce pods I planted. Surprisingly excited

ravenlocke,
Hello! This is my first post on these forums! I just wanted to let you know I am heavily researching which Aerogarden to purchase right now and I found your pictures/story to be extremely helpful. I read all 7 pages of this topic. Thank you so much for posting all this and really enjoyed seeing all your success.
Based on all your pictures, I'm leaning an Aerogarden Farm Plus (with 24 inches of grow space). I say this because it doesn't appear you used all 36 inches of grow space and your growing was very successful! If you have any thoughts on this I would love to hear it and would love to see an update on how things are going for you!
Take care,
-BP

bp, welcome! Glad to see you here.
ravenlocke hasn't been here since April, so I am not sure he will see your post.
But I think the 24" machine is great for most things that we generally grow in Aerogardens, unless you want to grow taller tomatoes or peppers.
Hopefully, other Farm owners will chime in with their recommendations.
Please keep us posted!

Hello Bp! I think a factor to keep in mind is that this system is something you will be using for years and years and having the versatility to change your mind or experiment is invaluable by having the largest system. I guess I am starting to use the full height now with my poblanos. I have done absolutely nothing with my pepper plants except harvest from them since I posted the last picture. If I was so inclined, I could prune them and keep them growing a little less wild. I am currently experimenting on the top with 8 different varieties of basil. A couple of the varieties I am growing can replace lettuce in a salad and basil is one of the quickest growing plants out there. I just started them about two weeks ago. Regardless of what you choose, it’s a great system and I hope you have as much fun as I have! :-)

looks like it's time to get my honey-do list completed so I have some bartering power and get my wife's blessing to buy the XL.
