Ravenlocke,
Thank you so much for coming back to this topic to respond to my post! My wife and I read your response together and based on what you wrote, she feels we should get an XL! Lucky me! Unfortunately, I just missed out on a sale Aerogarden had yesterday on the 24 XL but I may just buy at its normal price because who knows how long I might have to wait for another sale. Thank you again!
Take care,
BP

I love my 24XL although I have not had any of my peppers grow that high yet.

Shawn is it because you prune them before they can get that high? Or are the plants just not interested in growing higher? Are they jalapenos?

I want them to grow but I think it is either the variety (all types f peppers) or I am pruning them incorrectly LOL... Either way I still love what I grow I am hoping what I have planted now will grow taller them what I am used to.

Congratulations! You will have fun with it. As a word from experience, you will want to get it off of the floor. I put mine on the floor at first. It's a lot easier to access from just a foot off the ground. I found myself not paying enough attention to the garden until I made the change.
Enjoy.

We just purchased a white farm 24xl from Aerogarden! Very excited for it to arrive. I think we will try jalapenos, Thai peppers and maybe tomatoes on one side. Would like to work in some strawberries on the other side along with herbs and maybe lettuce. I'm probably being too over zealous but we're excited.

Congratulations on the new machine! You will have to share it with us once set up.

bp, you prune certain pepper plants to prevent them from being top heavy for the most part. A number of peppers grow strait upward. Those plants have a hard time supporting the weight of the peppers. By trimming off the main stem, what we call "topping" them, you force the plant to branch or bush out thus distributing the weight more. This also produces more peppers in most cases.
With Aerogardens, we are restricted by how tall a plant can grow because of the light. Sometime we need to top them because they are growing into the light. It is for this reason we need to be conscious of what pepper variety we buy. Certain pepper plants grow over 5 feet tall in nature.
The third reason I top them or prune them is to keep the plants a similar height. If one plant is significantly taller than the other, the shorter plant won't receive adequate light and won't produce as well.

First basil harvest. Pesto has 5 types of basil, garlic, sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts and fresh Parmesan cheese! Yum!

Quick update, the pepper plants are still thriving and producing all we need for cooking purposes. The tomatoes are also doing well and as long as we keep them pollinated, have pretty large yields. I have the tea herb set recently planted which is camomile, lavender and mint. I am going to have to prune some of the tomato fronds back to ensure they get adequate light. We also have a wonder berry shrub in a pot next to the AeroGarden and this alone has been giving it adequate light to grow. Otherwise nothing eventful and both farms remain problem free with minimal care.

ravenlocke, what a fabulous setup! I love looking at photos like yours, because that's what AGs are all about. How long has that beautiful, well-cared-for pepper plant been producing for you? What kind of peppers are they?

The pepper plants have been going for 416 days and there are two sweet bell pepper plants and two poblano plants… :-)
