This is looking good! I notice most of my greens are also ready for a first, small, harvest at around 21 days as well. I have the bok choy kit from AG sitting waiting that I have not planted. Every time around I swear I am going to plant and don't. It is like I am savoring it... I also am conflicted between experimentation and production...and I usually veer toward the latter, but I do get a small case of FOMO when I see all the cool stuff people do.

I harvested my baby bok choy, and sauteed it up with garlic, red pepper flakes, and lemon juice. It cooked down quite a bit, of course, but two servings were all we needed! Yum! This was six pods worth of bok choy -- although I harvested some larger leaves last week, and this is what was left. I put four new pods with bok choy seeds back in and gave up two spaces for the fairytale eggplants. I'm hoping I can sneak in another bok choy harvest while the eggplants keep growing slooooowly ... I can tell the bok choy is going to be a favorite of mine. Maybe I'll give it space in my lettuce garden. The lettuce is producing more than my husband and I can eat, so we don't really need 12 pods worth.

Day 50 for my fairy tale eggplants ~ and we have buds! Meanwhile, my second crop of baby bok choy in this garden aren't doing well. I keep the leaves of the other plants trimmed away from them and the lights low, but they don't seem to like sharing space with the bigger plants. By comparison, these baby bok choy were planted in my other garden two days later than the ones above, but they are much happier even though they were right up against tall lettuce until yesterday. Anyone have thoughts? Are the big tomatoes and eggplants just sucking up all the nutrients?

Everything looks great. I love the tiny toms and the eggplant buds. The bok choi looks good too. As for anything being sucked up... I can not help as I do not grow bok choi and do not know how it grows.

For me, Choi, especially the baby or the dwarf is as gentle as lettuce. Toms and larger vegetables take far too strong a nutrient mix for the lettuce and choi to survive and they will look poorly and in the end die from nutrient burn. Just what i have experienced.

This flower has bloomed for the past 3 days, closing up every evening. So far, no friends to pollinate with, although that neighboring bud might be ready to open tomorrow. I don't know if this plant self-pollinates or if I need a bloom on the other plant to cross-pollinate. We'll see what happens!

Check on the few other fairytale eggplant projects on the forum to see if anyone pollinates.

Check on the few other fairytale eggplant projects on the forum to see if anyone pollinates. Corinne sent me a link to MaryL's mini eggplant garden. She found that she did need to pollinate, so I'm kind of assuming I probably do too. I just discovered a hidden mature bud on my second plant that will probably bloom tomorrow. So, whether I need to pollinate across two different plants, or across flowers on the same plant, I will have what I need to get started by tomorrow!

I dont believe they need to be cross pollinated, but just need a little shake to release the pollen inside the flower..like tomatoes. An electric toothbrush, AG's Be the Bee pollinator accessory or just brushing the leaves with your have will achieve this type of pollination.

Lots of blossoms now on the fairy tale eggplants! I've been pollinating them daily with an artist's paintbrush. I can actually see the pollen flying around at the touch of the brush. So far, the flowers close up every evening and re-open in the morning, unlike tomato blossoms which shrivel up immediately after I've pollinated them. Meanwhile, I will soon have tomatoes, as you can see! The baby bok choy in between recovered somewhat after I drained the garden, cleaned it, and refilled it. At least, they turned dark green again. But their growth is still stunted by that first unhappy week. They are way behind their brothers in my other garden. (see below)

Some of the flowers on these plants have double stigmas. Cool!

I have never seen a flower with double stigmas. Wonder if the eggplants will be Siamese twins? Would be fun if it doubled the harvest.
