My final crop! I pulled out the plants, cleaned the garden, and planted mini-cucumbers and baby bok choy. These beauties were delivered to my father. (Safely.) Thanks to everyone for joining me on this little fairytale adventure!

Those eggplants were so beautiful that I bought seeds to do my own project when I have room.
Almost everyone was sold out of Fairy Tale seeds. I finally found some at SeedsNSuch.

Hi Dianne! I know this thread has been dead for a bit, but I wanted to say that your post inspired me! I've always wanted to use an Aerogarden, but I didn't know what I'd like to grow. Well, I got my first Aerogarden - a Bounty - and planted 3 Fairytale Eggplant today. Fingers crossed! Any special tips and tricks you can think of for a first timer? I'm so nervous! I've read all about pollinating and changing the water every month. And you prune so there's only one plant per pod, right? What about moving the grow lights? When do you do that? Thanks so much for your lovely pictures! They've inspired me. - Akiva

Hi, Akiva! I'm not Diane, but just wanted to say congratulations on your new Bounty, and I'm delighted that you chose the beautiful little fairy tale eggplant as your first project!

Hi Sher! Thanks!
I saw in the thread that you bought your own Fairytale Eggplant seeds, too. Have you started them? Got any pictures?

No. The seeds just arrived this week and my Aerogardens are all full. I am making some homemade semi-Aerogardens since the models I want are out of stock. When I get them up and running I'll put the Fairy Tales in there and cross my fingers.
And I'll post pictures, but it will be a while.
Before I heard of Fairy Tales, I bought some Dwarf Purple Thai eggplant that are like tiny balls. Not nearly as cute as the Fairy Tales. The Thai eggplant is about 2 inches tall. They will also move out of the Harvest and into the DIY units.
Then, gorgeous flowers are going into that Harvest.
I keep one Harvest as a dedicated seed starting unit. It has tiny zinnias, lipstick peppers and nano geranium starts in it.

I love purple Thai Eggplant! I'm a huge eggplant aficionado, so I'm quite jealous. I'd love to see pictures when you have them! From your lipstick peppers, too; those are so gorgeous!

Will do! The lipstick pepper seeds haven't sprouted yet, so it will be a while!
I started one in Kratky and it grew beautifully for a while, then died. So this is round 2 on them.

Thanks so much for your lovely pictures! They've inspired me. - Akiva Hi, akivalocal! I'm happy my posts inspired you to jump in! The eggplants were fun to grow. Not every vegetable is as gosh darn adorable as this one! Yes, I thinned them out so there is only 1 plant per pod. If the leaves grew really big and started encroaching on the space of their fellow plants, I trimmed the leaves in half. Look for the earliest buds and flowers underneath the big leaves. They tend to be hidden. Also -- a warning -- some of the leaves have THORNS! I got pricked more than once. As for the grow lights, the plants tended to spread sideways and didn't grow very tall. I kept the lights a couple inches above the tallest part of the plant. By the end, I did use a trellis to help support branches with heavy fruit growing on them. Good luck, and please post pictures! ~~ Dianne

Thanks dianne! That's all very helpful! I will make sure to check under the leaves. Right now I have 3 pods spaced out in my Bounty. They aren't sharing it with anything else; spacers are in the other 6 spots. Do you think that will be ok? I'll post pictures once I have something to show!

Lo and behold, today I have sprouts in 2 of my 3 pods! I though it'd take much longer; the Aerogarden directions said they'd sprout in 14-21 days. Yet here I am 6 days later!
Not sure what the etiquette is for this; should I start a new thread? Or is it OK to piggyback on this one?
In any case, I'm beyond excited! Aren't they just the sweetest looking little things?

Anyone have any idea what this is? My little sprouters are growing nice and big, but something is happening to the end of the leaves. They're turning a sort of silver color and getting quite dry. Do they need more nutrients? (I'm supposed to add some in 1 day). Is it something else? They have plenty of water. Thoughts? I'm consumed with worry.
