Today I planted the vacant half of the Farm Plus with a bunch of seed pods that may not germinate. The pods, from top left, are: Chives, Mini Jalapeño Salad Greens Curly Parsley, Salad Greens, Mini Jalapeño Thyme The garden uses the presets for a Lettuce Garden. The pods have a 2020 "Sell By" date (some may be older, but probably aren't), except for the jalapenos. The jalapeños were purchased last year, and have a 2021 "Sell By" date, but the pod that started along with the replacement poblanos did NOT germinate. (Poblanos were sent because my banana pepper sprouted from a poblano pod.) The poor elderly pods will have to make do with a light that isn't at its lowest point, too. The bell pepper in the grow deck next door has usurped some of the available space, and has a nice pepper that would touch the light if the light were lowered all the way. .jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds) .jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds) |

Good luck on the older seeds. Sometimes they take longer to germinate, but can surprise you. |

I have planted older seeds and success. I usually save seeds that are two years old and then I ditch the rest UNLESS they are something that I really like. Then I save and hope they germinate ... and surprisingly they did. I hope the same for yours.  |

Most seeds are viable for 5 or more years depending on how they are stored.. I have use seed that were 8 years old and most germinated, again depends on the seeds and how they were stored. Good luck, no harm in trying!

My older seeds (sell by 2020 date) are germinating, with the possible exception of the curly parsley. It's too early to tell. Even the chives have germinated. I've always had trouble starting chives--perhaps the upstairs location was too warm for them. Today I started some AG Golden Harvest cherry tomatoes, and a pod of Johnny's Washington Cherry tomatoes in the upstairs older model Bounty. The Washington Cherry is a determinate variety, but I have no idea how large the plant gets. It will be fun to see what happens. My plan was to use that older Bounty for microgreens, but the microgreens deck doesn't fit. Bah! The Fairy Tale eggplants are coming along!  |

Today I pruned all of my pepper plants. I'm finding it difficult to understand how pepper and tomato plants grow and branch, so my plants continue to produce a lot of unwanted foliage. The upstairs Bounty had three nice bell peppers, and one that had developed blossom end rot. (An indoor gardening first for me.) You can see the problem in a photo I took a few days ago, but I never noticed until I was harvesting all of my mature bell peppers.   The downstairs Farm Plus had four nice peppers. All seven bells will be pickled tomorrow.  The bell pepper in the Farm Plus still has baby peppers in the branches that are encroaching on the deck next door, where I'm testing older seeds for germination. The new plants there need lower lights, so I just moved the whole grow deck with the tiny plants to the empty Farm 12 Plus that I was saving for the GAL next month. I turned off the grow deck next door to the bell pepper, except for the light. The Aerogarden resources page says that blossom end rot is caused by a calcium shortage. Although I love growing other peppers (especially Sweet Heat), my favorite old standby are still bell peppers. I love them raw, cooked, stuffed --any way you can imagine.
Yours make my mouth water!

Your peppers look good. As for the one it looks like you had Blossom End Rot. This thread explains how to treat it. |

My Poblano peppers are growing slowly, though they are beginning to produce blooms.  The Banana and Bell peppers in the Farm Plus are continuing to produce fruit. I'd love to see the plants covered in blooms (like mike 's), but for now they're producing all that I can use.   The older seeds in the Farm XL are doing okay. I gave up on the chives, which germinated but stopped growing. The pods with the domes are Thyme and Curly Parsley, which also may have stopped growing. The Salad Greens (all red leaf lettuce) and Swiss chard are active! The pods at the right are AG Mini Jalapenos.  The Bounty Bell pepper is at maximum height, and has 3 new peppers, all seeming to be healthy.  |

Too much will produce more blooms than the plant can support, and you'll have massive blossom drop.
